Moms PET scan

0 Recommendations

Well the results from my mom's PET scan results came back. Her PCP delivered it like a death sentence. She definently has lung cancer. Most likely adenocarcinoma. She has a large tumor in her left lung, swollen lymph nodes in her chest, evidence of spreading to her right lung, adrenal gland, and small areas in two bones. How she got to this point with no evidence in CT scans is beyond us and her physicians. I am praying so hard and trying to remain strong for her.

So sorry Niks. Someone ought to kick that PCP in the arse! Find the best cancer center in your area. Have you decided what you are going to do, or I should say has your mother decided what she wants to do? Let us know. You are all in our prayers. Take care, JC

The fact that her cancer didn't show up on a CT scan is good news. My first dx of LC didn't either, and it was very early stage, so I am praying that is the same with your mom. As for her doctor - I don't know why, but PCPs and pulmonologists both (in my experience anyway) seem to have trouble keeping their feet out of their mouths. JC is right - find the best onc or cancer center near you. God bless, Alice

Micki:

Please speak to your mother about finding the best Cancer Center close to you. Get copies of her scans and reports and ask mom for permission to set up another opinion.

I cannot believe that a PCP delivered this message. Everyone goes for another opinion anyway and most of us are better off for it.

I'm sure you and mom are feeling kind of down right now, but "Don't Stop Believing." You both have a lot of work to do to fight this beast.

Much Love,
Marylou

Thanks to all of you for the advice. We or I should say Mom has an appointment with one of the best cancer centers in the area. Mom hasn't even started chemo yet and she has no appetite. She says she just does't have an appetite. I want to do all I can to make sure she gets enough calories and nutrients. She takes a multi- vitamin but what else can I do. I know she has a battle ahead and I want to do all i can to help make sure she is prepared. Any suggestions! I am so glad I found this site.

I would see about getting her on folic acid and getting a B-12 shot. You can get this from your dr. Also, if your mom doesn't have an appetite, get some whey protein powder and make her a shake. See if she will snack on some fruits and veggies. Try to stay away from fried foods.
I, myself stay away from red meats, processed meats, and refined sugar.
Also, another good supplement to take would be "Omega 3".
I hope this helps. Wish you all the luck and take care. If there is anything I can do, please feel free to ask. Karen
