Mom's Been off Tarceva since Last Tuesday

0 Recommendations

Hi All,
Mom's been off the Tarceva since Tuesday. I am seriously worried about her nausea and energy level. For those of you were taken off Tarceva, how long did it take you to feel better? I am thinking that Mom's symptoms are due to her cancer.

Sorry I can't answer about Tarceva but I would suggest you ask her doctor for folic acid and B12 shots. These help with side effects and building the immune system. Make sure she stays hydrated.
Take care, JC

I started to feel better each day. In about a month or so I felt really good after being off it. I didnt have any symptoms of lung cancer when I went on the Tarceva within a short time I started to feel pretty lousy. Tarceva didnt work for me and my cancer progressed, but even with saying that. I feel much better now that I am no longer on the Tarceva. Carboplatin/alimta has been much kinder to me.

My mom took folic acid while getting Alimta. She had a B12 shot before she started Alimta back in July.

Thanks Pitrel!

I don't see my mom getting better. Mom felt lousy on Tarceva and I don't see any improvements since she has been off of it. How were you doing nearly a week off of it? The onc does not want to start any trial until Mom has been off the Tarceva for one month.

Kristi

Well it makes sense that he wants to wait a month. I guess he wants to make sure she isn't having symptoms from the Tarceva. Each day I felt better and in a month I felt better than I did the whole 3 mts I was on the tarceva. While on Tarceva, I not only felt really run down, had a stomach ache, skin problem, depressed, sores in my nose. Also I thought maybe the depression was due to the cancer. But you know after getting off the Tarceva I didnt feel as down. I think the tarceva caused it. Also my hair didnt grow. Which isnt a real bad thing, but it was just one more thing to worry about, and stress over.

Kristi, I don't have any answers--but i wanted to tell you i am here thinking about you and that i am so sorry that your mom is still not feeling better even though she is now off of the Tarceva. I pray that she begins to feel better soon! (((HUG)))

Mary

I understand that and completely agree with the onc. But my mom has been off the Tarceva for a week and she should show signs of getting a little bit better each day and I am just not seeing it. I am getting really nervous at this point.

Thanks Mary!

Kristi

Kristi, My mom is in Lawrence. I was her primary caretaker through her first occurrence of NSCLC. She was diagnosed with a recurrence almost a year ago and went through more chemo. At the completion of that, after seeing someone at KUMed, she tried Tarceva for a few weeks. She could not tolerate it. Had too much gastrointestinal upset. It took a couple of weeks at least once she was off the drug to begin to recover from the terrible symptoms, including skin rash/dryskin and mouth sores, but it did reverse eventually. Hang in there and ((hugs)) - Jennifer
