Has anyone every had problems with insomnia caused by megace? After being started on megace, my husband gained his weight back but now is suffering with night sweats and insomnia. Has anyone has similar problems or heard of it as a side effect of megace?

Cancer Insomnia Sweating

My brother took it for quite awhile and did not have any side effects. Is he taking anything else where he might have similar side effects?

We have looked at everything. We can't find a reason for the insomnia. The oncologist suggested the cancer itself being the case of the sweats. We are just at a loss. We need someway to find an answer to his lack of sleep. He is sleeping a max of 2 hours and maybe a nap in the daytime of an additional hour. We will keep trying and hope for sleep.

Megace can cause flushing & sweats, as can cancer.

Megace can also cause insomnia. Here is a link to a chart showing side effects reported during the clinical trials for this drug. Insomnia was not one of the most common side effects but it definitely made the list.

At a website where patients "rate" drugs, there are 8 ratings for Megace and a number of them report insomnia. Others mention frequent urination which continually disrupts their sleep.

It is possible that Megace is causing his insomnia.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your help. I just couldn't figure out what was going on with Mike but all the sweating and insomnia started after Megace. His doctor never gave us a clue that it could be a problem and acted as the problem was not a big deal. It was a big deal to us. He felt like crap because he never slept. He kept us all up all night with his late night crazy activities. Cleaning closets was this biggest feat. I'm glad the closet are clean but would had rather slept. He has stopped the megace and might be starting to sleep better soon. Thanks alot. Angela
