My father was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer which mestastised to his brain where he has 3 lesions which we hope to be removed with Gamma Knife treatment.

He did not take the radiation well and has since been walking with much trouble (reason for Gamma knife)

I have read the benefits of pot smoke and it how it helps prevent/destroy "genetically damaged cells" (cancer). SInce he has lung cancer, I considered buying a vaporiser so he receives the medicinal benefits without the carcinogens of the smoke.

Has anyone experiment with pot during, before or after treatment? Please share with me your stories. The good, the bad, and the ugly...

I'm desperate for something that will help.

Please respond

God bless

You can always cook with it in tea and butter - not sure the benifits..
God bless your dad I hope his treatment works..

I know there's a medicinal form that stimulates the appetite. I don't know of any way offhand that eliminates the carcinogens -- I don't believe that they are in the "just smoke" --

Everything kills you, 'eh? I'd well, decide what's right for you, individually, for some the appetite stimulant is worth it, some prefer the med, some prefer the more natural form. And some of it kills you, again I don't know anyway way of taking the good and leaving the bad and that probably goes for most of the things we consume.

Just do your research thoroughly and keep in mind you will get the 'good stuff' minus the 'bad stuff' in both camps. For some of these things I wish I knew HOW to get proper research that wasn't improperly influenced. Hard to find.

first of all - it's ILLEGAL in most states so I wouldn't go around discussing this in public.... and while I'm all for what works legal or not - the only thing that pot can do for you is help with the nausa - this coming from a former "pot head" smoking it is out of the question - eating it will only get you stoned - but if you live in CA you can get a perscription for it - go for it..lol

haha -

A lot of things are illegal in most states, in most forms -- marijuana does have medical benefit and is allowed more places at least in that form. It's not something I've ever -- I'm afraid of all types of addictions -- but it does have its good and it does need to be looked at. Check out the studies, that's important.

If you decide to try it. Boil it in water with a stick of butter. When it cools the butter will harden again and the TCH (fun part) will be in the butter. Use the butter in anything you care to. The effect comes on slow but lasts a while.
Or so I've heard :)

Thank you for your responses..

There are pills like Marinol that are derived from THC. However, I've read studies conducted through Harvard as well as a University in Spain showing how THC helps destroy cancer cells.

I am aware of the "medicinal licenses" in states such as california, etc. and will definetly go that route should he decide to use this form of "treatment"

Marinol is big bucks.
My MD says it is expensive to take the fun out

I would like to my father to do it the "natural" way but I'm scared of how he'll take to the sensation of being high... He's never done any drug and suffers from anxiety.

I'll have to see where we can go to use it medicinally because Florida has yet to permit marijuana for any purpose.

Thank you Jim.. You've been very helpful

Glad I could help.
The laws are crazy. In Maine we can use medical marijuana we just can't buy, grow or own it.

Hi,
My husband got prescription for Marinol from onc. to increase his appetite. It's work for him very well. His appetite much better. He also became more relaxed and happier. We do not know about any other medicinal benefits of it, and if it helps destroy cancer cells It could be greate. It is very expensive, but Insurance company covered 100% cost of this pills.
We would suggest - go for it. Its work for us and its could work for you. Good luck,
Gene&Lana

I will definetly look into Marinol and what the insurance will or will not cover. If it does help him, I really don't care what it will cost me. (Hopefully the insurance will cover the costs)

Thank you all for your comments : )

I believe the medicinal benefits come from the vapor when you vaporize .... that's what I've been reading. The benefits are not just from the THC, but from the many canabanoids as well. So, I don't think cooking/eating marijuana will make a difference with shrinking the tumors, but it should definitely increase appetite.

But there are also many other herbs/botanicals that are legal and used by CAM/Integrative practioners.

When I asked my Mother's Oncologist about marijuana, he said to take a cast iron skillet and melt about 4 tablespoons of butter, add 1/4 ounce of pot and heat it through to release the oils from the pot. Be careful not to burn or over heat. Then dump in a brownie mix and mix together as instructed on the box and then bake.
As far as dosing goes, just break off a couple of bits and eat it. Adjust the bites according to how the patient desires. I hope this helps as I plan on doing this with my mother.

Wow,

I'm surprised a Dr would even discuss how to do that, that's awesome. Was not because of chemo etc that my husband thought about it after many, many, many years ;) but steeped it like tea. Only during his bad nerve pain and the Dr would not give him anything for it did he try that...just a short fix then the pain lessened. Yes it may be disturbing for older patients who are not used to something like that but who knows? Good luck. K
