Made a wrong decision . . .

Wow ! I was doing great on Alimta - scans continued to show shrinkage. Suggested I take a "drug vacation" and just do Avastin - so did. Now my scans show worsening of disease and will start a new chemo of carboplatin/alimta/avastin - who knows, maybe the Alimta would have rendered the same results but I can't help but think I should have stayed on the Alimta and not taken a vacation.

Kind of sad and bummed out.

Kathy,
I am so sorry. Bet there are other drugs out there that will work. Your Doc probably has a few others left in his bag of tricks. Please keep a positive attitude. We all know that's really important.

Hi Kathy,

Please don't beat yourself up just because you took a vacation from the chemotherapy. You're already going through a lot right now.

The good news is (and I try to find it wherever I see it) is that your tumors are responsive to chemotherapy, whether it is Alimta or something else. You've got options. And that's a good thing.

Sincerely,
Cheryl

To all of you -

Thank you for the kind words and positive messages. Yes, I am just going to move forward and do what I need to do - keep fighting.

As Chum says - COURAGE

kathy

Sorry to hear it did not go as wished. Sometimes the drug holiday is worth it anyhow!!!! Hopefully the new combo will get yu back on track.
Pam

Don't be sorry you took the vacation - you probably needed it! Hoping for good results with your next treatment.

No decision you make is bad. We all have 20/20 hindsight. You make a decision with the best information you have at the time. Some decisions are good and some decisions don't work out. Don't dwell on it. Instead, you should be thinking about the NEXT decison you are going to make. That decision is the decision to keep fighting hard. Don't get sad, get MAD! Hang in there Kathy!

My dear friend
Kathy that is not really true. I was on Alimta for 6 cycles and the first cycle was good. My tumors were stable. Then the next scan which was at the last of my 6th cycle and the tumors had grown and also developed new ones.

So don't beat yourself up over this. Sometimes these things happen. You can't take responsibility for this. Turn it over into the Lords hand.

I will call you later if you are going to be around.

Love you
Linda

hi kathy,

there is no telling if this was a good decision or not. you dont know if the long term outcome would have been better or maybe even worse! it is what it is. go forward from here.

our hearts and prayers are with you, and we are believing for a brighter tomorrow for all of us.

hugs

Linda -

I gotta love you - you have been such a supportive friend and one who continues to give me insight and inspiration in my fight. thank you for being you.

Look forward to NYC.

Talk soon.

Kathy

Thank you - yes, it was a decision and in the business world was always told it was better to make a decision than none at all. So, onward I travel with the ongoing decision to FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.

Kathy

No second guessing. Unfortunately, you will never know what else might have happened if you hadn't taken the break. It was not a "wrong" decision, just a decision made for what you needed at that moment. I know that the rollercoaster is maddening. Here's to more success in the near future! Many prayers.
