I had my surgery 4 weeks ago and cannot seem to find any real information on how long a person can expect to live post-surgery.

Hi, what type of lung cancer do you have? NSC or small cell. Be thankful that you were able to have surgery, and I pray that they diagnosed you early and you may indeed be many of the lucky fighters, surviors, of lung cancer. Do not look at the stats, just get a good oncologist, do your treatment if that is what is recomenned, get another opinion if you please and try to ignore the stats and live your life.
Karen
I don't know much about small cell, but if you have stage 1 non small cell and they operate, you can live out your natural life. No one ever knows what is going to happen. But your chances are pretty darn good. Please don't even read statistics. All they do is frighten you. Everyone is different.
Karen
I would hope with it being Stage 1 it can be managed and you'll be around for a long long time.
I would ask you to go to the library and see if they have a copy of Dr. Young's PH Miracle Living his protocol discusses how if you get your body in a high PH Alkaline condition cancer cannot survive. I urge you to read it. Take from it what you believe in and feel will aid in your recovery. I believe in the PH miracle protocol and that it can work for beating this cancer.
I'll say a prayer for healing for you.
Becky :)
Actually it was non small cell stage 1
Well, I am a 14 year lung cancer survivor and after all these years of being one, I suggest you NOT try and find something to read regarding life expectancy on lung cancer. That's something we preach very heavily here. DON'T READ THE STATS!!! In my humble opinion, some live with this disease and some don't. No one knows who will live and who will not. You have no idea how many people had or have been told by (Some) doctors that a person has 6 months, 9 months, one year to live. And low and behold these same people are here 12, 15 , 20 years later. You need to look for the positive side of this journey.
If you read the stats on this, they neglet to tell you the over all health of the patients when posting this information, as well as a lot of other information they don't tell you.
So, having said that, Your here and your a survivor and you may very well live 30 more years and you may very well get something that isn't cancer related but do your best to NOT play the "When will I die game?" It's something we have ALL done and some still do, but it's a waste of our precious time, and you should be busy living and enjoying life.
If your cancer comes back, then and only then will you have to deal with it. Right now your Cancer Free and a Lung Cancer Survivor and I say, GO ENJOY LIFE! Worry more on how your going to live rather then how and when your going to die. Sounds to me like you have a good chance of beating this being your in an early stage, but even late stage people live long and happy lives. I'm one of MANY of them.
Hugs,
Connie
P.S. Here's a link to another post regarding life expectancy. This subject comes up alot. We honestly understand why people ask this, but we want you to know this disease is treatable, beatable, and doable. Many Many Many do survive it and live long happy lives.

It is helpful to have a good understanding of what kind or type of lung cancer you have for treatment reasons and to compare notes with those in the same boat.

Connie
I don't know for sure what kind of surgery you had but I had part of my right lung (one lobe) to be precise removed in Nov 02. I went back to work and have since retired~~use oxygen 24~7. otherwise life is good
Good LORD - you were stage 1 - get out and live your life! You have a shot after surgery of being Cancer FREE for MANY years - stop waiting for the other boot to drop - it may never drop at all!!!! Go and LIVE STRONG!
