LDN side-effects: feedback appreciated

0 Recommendations

Hello everyone,
I started on LDN (low dose naltexrone) at the recommended dosage of 4.5mg and developed quite severe side-effects. The sleep disturbances I was expecting and could live with. But awful gut pains, griping, nausea made it hard to stay on. My initial suspicion was the filler: it my pharmacist's case he used Avicel (cellulose). But contrary to what the official website says, I've since read on other forums that lots of people have had similar side-effects.
I have NSMLC stage 111a. No addiction to painkillers and not on chemo.
Any honest feedback on LDN would be appreciated. I have read with interest several members, including Jim, have been on LDN for some time.
Best wishes everyone, Art.

Art,have you had any chemo yet? What time do you take it? You say no addiction to painkillers, but are you taking anything even over the counter? Take care, JC

Good morning:

I have NSCLC w/ mets to spine and nodes. Opted out of chemo and radiation.

I have been taking 4.5 mg LDN (at night) for 3mo now. Also, no sugar, white flour or dairy. Taking 300 ALA, Milk Thistle, Rieshi mushroom extract and Flax capsules. Keeping PH alkaline.

I was advised to have the pharm use acidolphilous as a filler. I have had no side effects. The sleep disturbances only lasted for several weeks.

I use Park-Irmat Parm, NY PH 212-685-0500 as recommended by Dr. Bihari. One mo supply is $38 and includes shipping.

Please stick with the LDN. I am feeling so much better in just 3 mo.

Hugs and hopes,

Hi Art,
There's a book called PH miracle living by Dr. Robert Young. See if your library has a copy of it . Dr. Young talks about how our bodies are mainly acidic and if we can get it in a PH Alkaline condition the cancer cannot survive. It's a great book. He talks about how important the PH water is for us. My sister declined chemo not wanting to feel bad if indeed her time were near. That was Aug '08. This past July after reading much about Tarceva on this website and how people are living for years on it, I asked her to ask the dr. to prescribe it for her. After two months the dr. said she had 'good improvement' in her lungs.

LDN would have been the next thing I would have started her on if Tarceva hadn't worked. Dr. Youngs protocol helps you understand how your body works and what it does to bring healing to itself even in a severe health condition.

Blessings to you.
Becky :)

Hi Art:

Here I am, back again.

There is much support and information, from others on LDN, on the following links.

We are all fellow travelers and will climb this mountain together. :-)))

I agree wholeheartedly with abhinj. Cellulose is used mostly for industrial products. There are other forms but that alone would scare me away from any type of use. Hope you'll follow through and get the other form. Good luck and take care, JC

My mother whom has finished 39 radiation treatments with new mets to lymph nodes has chosen no more treatments but when we asked the oncl. about
LDN he said he never heard of it. What exaclty is it and what does it do. where do to you get it, etc.? She may be willing to try this. But we need some info. Thanks Nancy

Appreciate the feedback everyone.
I have NSCLC stage 111a with successful surgery to remove one lung behind me. I did not have chemo.
I am in extremely good health 8 months later. I have not had a single infection since my surgery and am walking each day for miles with zero breathing difficulties, hence my reluctance to just start on chemo at this point.
However, I underwent gene testing in Germany and the risk of recurrence was sky high with rising stem cell count. New scans coming up will tell where I'm up to.
Hence my current search for treatments. Tarceva I would consider, however it is $4000 a month here in Australia as it is not used mainstream other than in trials, unless someone knows something I don't.
The recommendation from Germany was for monoclonal antibodies, which would be great if they were available here and if anyone had any experience with them, so it was totally impractical advice.
The LDN seemed like a good bet, however the side-effects have forced me to stop, temporarily at least. So much for the no side-effects theory.
Following the above advice, I think I will import from the New York pharmacy that is recommended and start on lower doses: 1.5mg 1st month, 3mg 2nd month, 4.5mg thereafter.
Still welcome any other expertiences and feedback with LDN. Jim, you out there? Have read your posts about your LDN choice over chemo.
As for the Ph Miracle: I am only too aware of this philosophy as I have ghost-written health books for many clients. But I could not have done more to support my physical health and still ended up here, so I'm not about to go back down the path of strict diets and fasting.

God bless everyone, Art.

Hello Art,
Some weeks back I started a discussion on Noscapine and LDN based on the research of Dr. Raymond Chang in NYC. here is the link to the discussion with links to his wordpress blogs. Hope it helps -

http://www.inspire.com/groups/lung-cancer-alliance-survivors/discussion/nos capine-for-cough-has-nsclc-antitumor-benefits/
Noscapine may be available over the counter where you are...
God bless,
Ellen

Thanks Ellen,
Interesting observations from Dr Chang.
Obviously you have done much in the way of mind/body healing and with your diet, but can I ask have you done anythng specifically to prevent recurrences or promote cancer cell death with medication or supplements? I gather you have ordered LDN but not taken it. The Noscapine I will further investigate. Thanks God I have little to no cough at this time.
Any further observations about LDN and cancer would be welcome.
Thanks again Ellen,

Art.

Art,

I have over 2 3/4 years experience with LDN for cancer and would recommend talking to professionals about your "questions" with LDN.

Dr Skip at Skip's pharmacy is one of the foremost leaders in compounding LDN in the USA and has done several studies with fillers which he found Avicel is the best. He will surely have the answers you are looking for... but I would definitely go back on LDN in the meantime...

I would contact Dr. Skip with any questions at :

skipthepharm@aol.com
or
info@skipspharmacy.com

Most have disturbed immune systems and that is why we have cancer or other disease... so correcting the immune system does take a couple weeks for correction. I found a bit of restlessness but all that went away but I would NEVER think to go off LDN. LDN is what has kept me alive all this time with late stage and very metastatic cancer. My cancer was doubling every 30 days in the beginning and now I have slowed it to over 270 days.

I am so grateful to LDN for this extended time.

Dee

Art,

I forgot... those who may want to start at lower dose of LDN and work their way up to 4.5mg.

Many will start at 3 mg for the first few weeks and gradually work up to 4.5 mg. My friends who take LDN did this and gradually got up to 4.5 mg and have had no problems.

See if this course is easier for you...

Dee

Thanks, it's good advice Dee. I have my suspicions about the compounding rather than any immune dysfunction issues. I take all sorts of nutrients without issue, but the LDN caused great intestinal distress. Will start on smaller dose and talk to my pharmacist.

Dear Art... In answer to your questions about what I do to prevent recurrence is as you stated; mind/body - yes definitely. My personal diet is really more of a "lifestyle" choice than just a diet.
I am very, very strict about what I eat, even more so about what I don't. But along those same lines, 95% of my food is organic, raw, and I do not eat "out", I don't eat out of a box, use a microwave, eat anything frozen, pre-packaged, pre-prepared, etc (you get the picture) and am very careful about my food combinations. I do not use commercial products on my skin, in my house, etc., etc.
I exercise daily and have a tendency to go overboard so I am trying to learn to pace myself because too exercise is bad, releases too much acidic lactic acids, etc.
I DO take abundant supplements that have been prescribed to me by Dr. Raymond Chang, or at least "Chang approved". (Specially formulated EGCG, beta-glucan mushroom extract, also specially formulated for the medical field, medicinal doses of IP6 & Inositol, and much more) I am careful when and how I take my supplements and with what foods. But all of that aside, if I had to choose between power foods and supplements my choice would be foods. I have witnessed too many people pass away who concentrated on supplements and just "worked" foods into their day, even though they may have avoided the "bad stuff".
As for chemicals - NO, I have chosen to treat my body very kindly, but sternly (like a mother to a child:), and try to re-build my body with extreme nutrition, allowing it to heal naturally the eay i believe God intended our bodies to function and work prior to the industrial interference of modern man and technology.
I am even growing more concerned about the time I spend near a computer even though I moved it across the room and do not use a computer monitor, I use instead a big-screen tv as my monitor and have it sitting 15 feet away to cut down on electro-magnetic fields and radiation. (I have unfortunately had waaaay too much radiation IMHO and hope the coming years treat me kindly in that regard).
Some people may laugh at me and my strict lifestyle but I cling to the fact that our bodies have been defending us from invaders even while in the womb... all without our even being aware of it, and we have battled cancer many times and won in the past too. I therefore believe in health over chemicals and so now see chemicals as the last resort rather than the first.
I know this is more than you asked for but I am very passionate about this... and I have been chemical-free now for about 1 1/2 years and honestly feel stronger and stronger with each passing month. We can totally rebuild a new body - organs, even bone cells replaced, every three years... I am counting on it.
Never stop asking questions - from specialists, doctors, associates, online, etc. God will open many doors for you as you seek answers to your questions. But in the end, we all need to "go with the gut" and then step out in faith.
God bless you Art,
Ellen

Lovely inspiring words Ellen. Thank you.
