Just having a bad couple of days ...

Mom was diagnosed with NSCLC stage 111b in August. We've been through 10 chemo treatments (Cisplatin, VP-16) and 35 radiation treatments. She's really been a trooper in my opinion. initially she was put on high blood pressure pills because a part of the cancer "broke off" and was sitting on her heart, making it beat faster. Radiologist said he would zap it with radiation. It appears that has happened. Her BP has been low for the last week or so and yesterday she starting having shakes and feeling slightly dizzy. After much argument, I paged her doc who said that she obviously doesn't need heBP meds anymore, and that some could be side effects of the chemo and we should always make sure she sits down when it happens, and we might even have to have her lay down. If it continues next week he wants to see her. Up until now, she's battled the sore throat from radiation, but otherwise we've been pretty lucky as far as side effects go. I'm terrified. Just terrified. We were ready for the next 10 chemo treatments and got a little "present" from the doc because he reviewed her case with a group of docs and scientists and they concluded that 10 more chemos would cause more side effects than help, so they just ordered 10 more radiations and now we wait to do the PET scan in January.

Has anyone else (or their loved ones) had the shakes? How long did it take to go away?

Sorry for the long post. I haven't logged into inspire in a while, and I guess I just needed to vent. I want so badly for this treatment to work, I am just not ready to lose my mom. I see the other posts about those losing their loved ones and it scares me even more ...

My Dad had cisplatin/taxotere . He didnt describe his symptoms as shaky but felt wobbly. He also fell twice due to low BP and was taken off of his BP meds after the first fall. He still continued with the dizziness and fell a second time. He was drinking plenty of water. We got him a wheelchair which helped him get around. What I understand is Cisplatin is a tough drug and to have radiation along with it wow!! I hope your Mom starts to get her strength back for christmas. Dad has had no Chemo for 2 months and is driving around and doing things but he says he is always tired. He still feels wobbly,

Thanks for the reply! We are hoping a lot of it is due to the BP meds that she no longer needs. Mom wants to do all of her driving etc. because she says this only happens when she stands up quickly, but I've begged her not to ...How long did it take for the dizziness to go away? We are actually 4 weeks off of chemo right now ...

My previously ideal blood pressure commenced to be all over the board both high and low about the time I was dx in February. I almost passed out once. I had gone too many hours without eating. Be sure she eats steady protein and stays hydrated at all times.
Now my blood pressure is almost back to normal without the highs and lows.
