It's back

Well, my Dad found out Tuesday that his cancer is back. They found a 1cm spot of cancer in his same lung he had it in back in May. His last chemo was on July 18th. He was told he was in remission on August 5th. He will be starting chemo again on Monday, along with getting another CT scan to see where else it might be. They are going to try the same chemo he had before since it worked so well before and he only had 4 rounds of it. I know I have heard how fast it grows when it recurs. Can anyone out there tell me what to expect? Thanks

Cindy

All I can say is that the cancer never left and they use the word remission far too often when scans don't detect the cancer.

The cancer was always there but just not detected and from what growth rate you are saying it is a very fast cancer..

I would get him on Low dose naltrexone "LDN" as soon as possible as you already know the results from chemo and radiaton.

I have stage 4B mets to lung and living with cancer but luckily on LDN for almost 2 years now. I was told only 4-9 months back in feb. 2007.

Going next week to the 4th annual LDN conference at USC to show my face and lend support to this wonderful drug that can save lives.

Mine is back too I had surgery on the right lung last April 07 now it's in my left lung and I have surgery next Thursday so I know how your dad feels. Elaine

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm praying your Dad will recover from this too. Be positive and stay strong.

Hello everyone.
My mom had surgery 2 m. ago, they removed the cancer, one rib,and doagnosed her with 3A.She is on chemo taxotere-gemzar.She is on her 2 round.Dr said that she has to do at least 4 rounds. They havent done CT yet,But what u think,if the cancer is operable, and Dr did lung resection,is the cancer going to come back soon.?Any idea?Thank u all.
Good bless everyone.

Cindy, I am so sorry to hear the cancer is back already. Your dear Dad is in my thoughts and prayers. My Dad has SCLC and the cancer came back in July in his liver, numerous spots. The doctor was so dreadful and negative I was scared he wouldn't make it a couple months, but he had been doing so good so I also refused to believe her terrible attitude.
Well, it's been 3 months and Dad is on a trip right now to Colorado visiting his brothers and sisters so we are so thankful that the chemo is working so far. There is another lady who posts on this site and her mom had a SCLC recurrence in the lung and she beat it again and I think has been cancer free over a year. Don't lose hope. Your Dad is in my prayers.

Stacie

Hi Cindy,

I think Stacie was referring to me. My Mom had a recurrence last fall after having a clean scan 5 months prior. They put her on a second line chemo drug, Taxotere. She had some other complications and ended up in the hospital with a blood clot caused by the tumor. It was a little scary but she was able to have radiation again (which everyone says is not possible). Long story short. It worked! She had her 9 month scan last month and it was good! Tell your Dad to hang in there! He will be fine!

Take Care,
Jodi

Dear Stacie and Jodi
Thanks for the positive input. I am so glad to hear that your Mom is doing better, Jodi. Stacie, It sounds like your Dad's responding to his chemo. We all have some tough Dads and Moms I guess, lol. My Dad is holding his own so far. He and my mom still go out to eat once or twice a week with friends. He tells everyone that hes going to be fine. His attitude once again is our strength. I haven't been able to see him once since they told him its back. I work at a school and we have an outbreak of whooping cough, so I don't dare go near him. I thought it was over and another case was dx'ed this morning.....so another 21 days I have to wait to see him. My niece is an onc nurse at the hospital, and she brought me home a mask that they wear when dealing with TB Patients....so maybe I will stop in for a quick visit:)

I will remember both of you and your parents in my prayers! Keep me posted how they are doing, please.

Cindy

Hi Cindy,
I am sorry to hear about the re-occurance; but it sounds like he is still strong and hearing the reports from Michelle and Stacie he should be able to put up another GOOD fight! I am thinking of you and praying for you and your dad!

Hugs,
Mary
