i was diagnosed with LUNG CANCER IN JUNE 2009. I HAD MY RIGHT UPPER LOBE REMOVED WITH LOTS OF LYMPH NODES SURROUNDING IT. EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD. I DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE ANY TREATMENTS. I AM GOING ON MY 11TH WEEK POST-OP. STILL PAIN, AND VERY SORE. DOES ANYONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PLEASE TELL ME WHAT KIND OF MASK TO WEAR TO PROTECT ME FROM SECOND HAND SMOKE? ALSO, WHEN I BEND OVER IT MAKES ME COUGH, IS THIS NORMAL?

PLEASE HELP

um I can say that I am 4 days post op from my Lower Left Lobectomy and still have pain, but it's only 4 days... I have found though that for me I use the pillow to hold on to when I cough or use the restroom etc and it really helps with the pain, as far as a mask for second hand smoke I wouldn't know, but I would suggest not being someplace where people smoke! But Im sure if you look online you could find masks to protect your from air pollution...

Wish you all the best, and I know things will get better for you and me!

HI D.J, I am sorry to hear that you are still experiencing pain. Hopefully when you look back to the day after surgery, you will find that you have come a long ways in your recovery. Unfortunately this operation involves cutting lots of muscles and nerves not to mention all the mental stress that this disease puts through. My doctor suggested to me to look at the progress a week at a time or even by the month. If you compare yesterday to today you won't see much difference in the way you feel. It is a long road and you have been through a lot. Hopefully by the end of this month you will be fit as ever. In the mean time try to give yourself and your body a break. You deserve it..Best Reguards, Birdy

I was sore for months, although I think the main pain subsided after about 3 months. I remember coughing when I leaned over, climbed into the car, all sorts of things -- that got better also with time. It is a very major surgery and you need to give yourself plenty of time to recover. I don't know anything about a mask for second hand smoke -- I would just stay away from it if at all possible if I were you. Where I live there are very few places where anyone is allowed to smoke anymore - the worst is at the doors to business where employees are having a smoke break - the law requires them to stay 10 feet away, but that's not much with all the smoke. I just try to hold my breath when I walk by.

THANK YOU GUYS...............................
