My husband and I have been reading "Anti-Cancer - a new way of life" by David Servan-Schreiber, M.D., Ph.D. He's a 15-year survivor of brain cancer. However, he stresses the importance of nutrition -- less sugar, less white flour, drinking green tea, etc. Also, he talks about one's "terrain" -- exercise, yoga, meditation. He believes these things in addition to conventional medicine. The book makes so much sense, not only in combating cancer, but just living a more wholistic life. He also has a website. Probably many of you have read it, but we're new to this awful disease.

Wonderful book. Just read it. Also read "Cancer, A second Opinion " by Josef Issels, Md. Read it if you can find it. Wonderful case histories of cures and long time suvivals. They both believe in building up the immune system and that cancer is a diease of the immune system. There is also a book online that is free to read at this link - http://www.alternative-doctor.com/cancer/binzel.html These books will give you hope!

Thank you. I have heard of the book you recommended, and I will definitely buy it.

I have been trying to read it since I was dx. I can't concentrate on anything right now but am hoping that after treatment I will be able to finish it.

Thanks,
Barb

I agree. When I looked at the studies on things like garlic, broccoli, pomegranates, cod liver oil, and nattokinase (a form of soy) in relation to their anti-tumor effects, I couldn't help but start to think a lot of problems start with deficiencies in our diets and the fact we are not eating a varied enough diet.

I believe that the foods David Servan-Schreiber recommends can be healthier no matter what the diagnosis. It has certainly opened our eyes, and my husband (who just had a right lobe and part of a left lobe removed) and I will be changing our eating habits. We've already begun.

It is so difficult to concentrate on anything when you've just been diagnosed. Keep in mind that the book is also available as an audio, and perhaps that would be easier and more helpful for you. We listened to about 4 out of the 7 cd's in the car on our way to Boston for surgery , and my husband found it much easier to concentrate on the cd's. Now that he's about a month post-op, he feels he can read it now. Lots of luck to you.

I've been following the book Anti-Cancer quite religiously since I read it. Great book! Think the nutrition has been a big reason for feeling great during the last seven months on Tarceva (Stage IV). People keep commenting that "I've never looked better." (Of course they are expecting me to look awful). Wish I had been this disciplined before I got lung cancer and I may have avoided this beast all together.

Sheila

Don't we all wish we had been so disciplined. Keep up the good work!
