I like this new site!

Gee, I feel like I must speak up because so many people are saying they don't like the site! I was on Dave Grant's original site, then the site changed to the one before this and now this. I think with every change things have been made easier in a lot of ways.

I remember when the original site changed there were a lot of people who were unhappy but a lot of them stuck it out and learned to love the new site. I think this site too has much promise and the people running it have been bending over backwards to try to fix problems and make things easier.

There are glitches as there would be in every change but I think they will get them fixed soon. I am very appreciative of this site and all that these people are doing for us. We get this site for FREE remember. I am amazed that such a thing exists in this world. Dave and Estrea used to spend a lot of money each year keeping the original site running.

So I hope that people can be a little more appreciative and kind hearted about what these people are doing for us and at least give them the opportunity to fix whatever it is you see isn't working for you here.

Sharon.....I agree. I like this new site too!

Lots of the negative comments have focused on a few of the "new" aspoects of the new site - lack of search features, the "recommendations", and the inability to quickly see more about a writer by moving the cursor over the name. I think it is much like parenting - we tend to focus on those things we don't like in our kids, trying to correct the flaws and not even commenting on the successes - the positive things they do. I had to consciously fight giving more attention to my son than to my truly perfect daughter.

The new site does have lots going for it - and once the perceived flaws are dealt with, it should receive acclaim from most.

I have to admit that my initial reaction to the new site, and to the new daily emails, was What Happened? Where is Everything? But it really hasn't been so difficult to find my way around. One thing I like about the new site is the emphasis on inspiring and being inspired. I sat down yesterday and wrote up my version of what Inspires me - it was nice to focus on the things that inspire and encourage me, and to put them into words. I'm still thinking about it.

It's been my experience that this is what happens with technology. I was employed as a computer programmer in the 60's - on "dinosaur" mainframes with keypunched cards and big reels of tape. A few years later, when a desktop computer arrived in our home while I was a stay-at-home Mom, I had a hard time learning to use the mouse.

Like everyone else today, we use our home computers for almost everything, and every time a new version of the OS or Internet Explorer or Money or Word comes out, there are changes that take some getting used to. They move buttons so we can't find them, and add features that we don't think we want or need, and we get frustrated for a few days, then learn to use them as well as the old system.

What's important is that we still have a place to meet, ask questions, express feelings, and support each other. I'm planning to stick around.

Thanks for everyone's support.

I had to laugh at SusanK's comments about how every time new versions of software come out, we get frustrated - I totally have that issue! My boyfriend (a software developer) recently convinced me to switch from internet explorer to Firefox as my browser because he said that I will find better formatting and it's actually safer. I was grouchy about it, but I forced myself to try, and now I prefer it leaps and bounds over Internet Explorer.

I also really like reading people's inspirations here. It makes me feel even more connected to people.

There have been many glitches fixed already, and many more to come. The search function will be back, and we are working on getting some of the default features changed so that some aspects of the site are not so confusing.

Thanks again for everyone's patience. The community is still the same. We are still full of compassion and support.

Thanks,

Amy

Hi Amy, as I was reading your post I was thinking ahead and when I read "The community is still the same. We are still full of ....". I'm sorry but "compassion and support" weren't exactly what I first thought of. I think mine would probably work as well on some days. LOL Sometimes I think we all need to lighten up. Just my opinion and that's all. -John

you are so right,i didnt know all of that, but other than being a little lost, its ok,ill learn my way around.

I never knew the first site, but I know in generally change can be hard when you are comfortable with something. I will say, that this site has been a godsend for me, so I want to thank the people who keep it running. I would be lost without it.

I too never knew the first site and I will second what sunshine2gal said......this site has been a Godsend for me also. I searched for encouragement on other websites and could only find discouragement. I was getting so discouraged that my husband went online and searched until he found this site. I am very thankful it is here. It is a true ministry to me.

Thanks for the site and for keeping lines of communication open to all that need it!

For those who didn't know the "first site", I sure hope we're around to complain a little bit when the next version hits!

I never knew the site before the current incarnation. I have written the "team" that keeps it going to thank them for all the do for us. Just having a forum to vent, get information and share a few minutes or words with others who are where I am now, who have been battling the same beast (their version of course) helps me cope, especially on the bad days. It has always interested me that in customer service jobs you always hear about what's not working, but seldom what is working. Thanks Inspire Team!
