Hi Ladies..........I started chemo last sept. 08 and ended this past January.09 since last October till now I have had no Periods but I started about 2 weeks ago and it just won't quit......seen my regular Dr. sent me to OBGYN tomorrow at 1:00 (Thursday) see I had a really bad blood clot when I got diag with cancer. so I was on coumadin for 6 months but they took me off and no more clots.......so she said she's not sure what she can do for me cause birth control pills can cause blood clots too.....and she don't want to chance that......and I know anything with estregen in it is not good for the cancer..........Has anyone else have had this problem....I am 50 they thought back then I was starting menapause........guess not.......appreciate any insight.

Hey Jeannie, my sister also had her period quit on her for several months and then when it did come back it stayed awhile. I think it's kinda let up again.

Not certain if this is something you want to consider but there is a birth control shot called DEPO it eliminates the period from happening if it can help get the bleeding under control for you. It's a shot one normally gets every 3 months.

Becky

thank you for that info.........will ask about it tomorrow

Jeannie--chemo kicked me into menopause at the age of 45. I actually took HRT for two years (before the current data) but stopped because it made me anxious. Well--I started bleeding again (heavily!) after almost three years and they performed an ultrasound to rule out cancer, etc... Turns out I was cycling again. Then last summer, when I started a new treatment, I popped right back into menopause again. I am now 49. This is one of those generally not mentioned side effects--sure took me by surprise. Good luck sorting it all out. LInnea

Jeannie,

My mom was 79 and had just finished her 3rd and final round of chemo and she got her period. Imagine after not having one for 20 some years. LOL It only lasted for 7 days and she said it was just like the flow she would have when she would have her period when she was younger.

When I had passed menopause and no more periods, then all of a sudden it started again, I went right to the doctor and it's a good thing because it turned out to be uterine cancer. I had a complete hysterectomy and all was well with that. I don't think anything like that should be ignored.

I posted on this similiar subject about 3 months ago. Seems having no periods is norm..but some do start up again. I have had one...in 15 months. It was long and painful then no more. Oddly enuff it came right after my post. Lasted 3weeks and then like i said no more. My periods have always been painful and long. Only first few days are heavy. This was heavy almost to the end and painful enuff it put me to bed for 3 days. Thats been like I said 3 months but wait...almost 5 months...my how time is just rushing by. wow. anyway..i was told that chemo jump starts you into menopause. Which i was already in what they now call peri-menopause? lol good luck
