I got booted from M.D Anderson

The day before i got there i started having problems with my motor skills. The Docs there
suspected post GammaKnife swelling on the brain.

The first day back home i get in a automobile accident.,,my brain was saying, :hey stupid step on the brake, : but my foot would not respond. No injuries,,minor damage to my truck,, the other dudes Nissan is screwed up pretty good. Oh well I have good insurance.

After the docs spent the day brainstorming they were all in agreement that this was caused by post Gamma Knife swelling and they me back on steroids.

Should be starting chemo soon. Dr Kim at M,D Anderson recommended a cocktail of Temozolomide,,Vinblastine, and Cisplatin

Sorry for the bump in the road(no pun intended). If anyone can whether this it's you Dave. If that's Dr. Edward Kim you mentioned then I know you're in the best of hands as he has been great with me.

Hang in there man and keep pushing on.

oh, baby brother,
you sure are having a time of it!!! I am sure happy they are FINALLY getting around to treating you - we need you to get better, buddy!!!!
humongous crazy hugs -
Pat

Dave,
hang in there guy. I am praying for you.

Dave
So sorry to hear about your accident. Atleast now you are on the road to getting it fixed. I'm sending lots of prayers your way.

Cindy

Dave, Good luck to you! Your determination and guts will get you through this. Prayers are with you. Pat

no more driving

Dave:

PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. YOU ARE SUCH A TROOPER....YOU DESERVE THE BEST OUTCOME.
JOLENE

Dave. Does this mean you are no longer in their trial? If so, what's your next step? Will you still be treated at MD Anderson?
Sorry about your accident and hopefully the steroids will make you 100% soon. Good luck and keep up the fight!

This is the second time I have noted this from the US. In Australia you cannot drive if you have a brain tumour, unless you have the all-clear from your neurosurgeon or oncologist some months after treatment. Makes good sense now.

wow.....I did the vinblastine and cisplatin (didn't have the "t" whatever your getting) only. Nothing spread with that combination. What are they looking to stop now with you? Since you've already had the gamma knife where else is it and are you going to get radiation as well? Oh...the bumper cars....are for the amusement parks......NOT the public streets!! Good to hear an update on you and PLEASE take care of you for US.

Yeah,,, the clinical trial is a no go.

Dr Kim at M.D Anderson ,,,great Doc,, recommmended a chemo cocktail of Temozolomide, Cisplatin, and Vinblastine.

The steroids are working and my motor skills have pretty much resumed to normal.

On a side note I am pretty much out of the path of Hurricane Gustav,,, but still prepared. Rumor has it a storm in the Gulf equals good fishing. :)

It's good to hear from you Dave. We miss you when we don't. Good luck and stay positive. You'll get through this part of it too.
Gretchen

Listen up grunt!

How long were you on a diminishing dose of steroids and how long were they completed before these motor skills were affected?
Have the deficits cleared since restarting steroids?
Did they do a triple dose MRI to rule out any new masses, paying close attention to the cerebellar region?
Gotta make sure they don't miss something,

G

The motor skills started crapping out slowly,, but of course I ignored all the signs (did you expect anything less from me)??

They did all the MRIs etc and compared them to past pics,,,My Neurosurgen from Tulane and a local Radiation Oncologist are both in agreement that this is post Gamma Knife swelling,

Dave,
Sorry to hear about your troubles - but if anyone can blast their way through it is you! Lots of positive and happy thoughts headed your way!

Erin

Dave, you just hang in their, marine! This, too, shall pass, as the saying goes! Stay the fight and be careful!

Dave,
Glad to hear the steroids are working and hope the new chemo cocktail does its thing. In the mean time maybe you should think about riding a bike for a while?

Liz

Dave???? on a bike?? Oh COOL I can see it now...DW wobbley!! LOL Nope. Definately not a bike...tricycle maybe?? Dave you know we love you and are all praying for you.. don't you.? You keep us all laughing and that makes us/you stronger. Please keep us updated and oh....good fishing!!

Dave, Dave, Dave, did you miss the part of the speech about no driving?
LOL ;-)

They told me if I promised not to drive they wouldn't notify DMV that I was being treated for a brain tumor. In many states they just plain take your license away making it difficult to get it back. Also if insurance companies find out a person involved in a fender bender or worse is being treated with a brain tumor they try to renege......so be careful out there will ya!

Dave, I'm always happy to see you check in with us, but so sorry about the trial and complications of swelling. My tumor wasn't very big but even then I had problems with post gamma swelling. After steroid withdrawal I was put back on some steroids for a while longer too.

Wishing you much success with your new cocktail,
Toddy

Sorry about your accident Dave - Don't drive til they say its okay! Okay? Good luck with your treatments - you'll do great!
