I became a CNA - death and eating

0 Recommendations

My mom passed a year ago and i became a CNA last month.

I had my 1st patient today he was under hospice at home. I got to his house this morning and he already passed.

Question- He was still feeding himself and eating up until the end. My mom lost her appetite weeks b4 she passed. I just find it VERY unusual to have an appetite up until time of death.

Anyone expereice this?

Yes, my Dad ate until the very end. He finished a taco and ice cream at about 8PM (always fed himself) and passed away early the next morning.

He may have died from a heart attack, hemorrage or something "other than" cancer.

hey Monica,
I don't have an answer - but I do have something to share - I am so very proud of you and your accomplishment!!!

Monica,

Congratulations on your achievement! Don't let your very first experince get you down because you were meant to provide tender loving care to those in need.

I've never heard of that either. Was he on any other drugs? It could have been something other than the cancer that caused his death. Please don't beat yourself up about it. Your help is needed for the many hospice care patients out there.

Take care!

Monica,
I am so very proud of your for chosing the new direction in your life. I have read your postings and followed your story. I know how much pain that you are in because of the beast that took your mom from you so quickly......I know one thing though.. Your mom is looking down on you and she is so full of pride and love. You will be ok...mom is watching to make sure

Monica,
My father in-law passed away 5 years ago. He had supper the evening before, went into a coma and died before dinner the next day. A friend of ours just passed away and he was up watching tv and eating till the night before. I believe they are the lucky ones.

My dad ate like until 12 hours before he passed away. He had 2 small cups rice pudding and a cup of chicken noodle soup.
