Husbands CT results/Future Chemo Treatments

0 Recommendations

Husbands CT showed tumor in lung grew. He was on Avastin only - 4/22/09-present- Drs said this was not helping -Now he will start Altima 7/10/09-(second line ) From what I read this seems like a pretty positve drug. How many times/lines of treatment is out there for us??? I was told Tarceva is used as the last resort-is that true?? I love reading all the discussions at this site-filled with so much info and hope!

hi annie, my dad has been on carbo/alimta since 5/13..just got 3rd infusion. doing scans 7/10 to see if all tumors shrank (last scan done after 2nd infusion showed some shrank, some grew)..we were supposed to do carbo/avastin/alimta all at once, but we didn't have a clear head scan and the avastin can cause bleeding in brain if there are mets...if scans don't come back with a great outcome, we're prbably switching to carbo/taxol...i guess from what i understand, there are a tremendous amount of options, and as long as your husband can withstand them, i believe they keep trying until they get the scan results they want. don't get discouraged. God bless!

Hi Annie,
I have heard of people on Altima and Tarceva together with some good results.

I have been on Tarceva since January of 2008. My Onc told me it works on 1 out of 10 people so I guess I am lucky so far.

When my Onc put me on Tarceva, he said we would see how it worked, and that he had other tricks in his bag. So, I don't think it's only as a last resort.

You both will be in my prayers.
Marylou
