0 Recommendations

Hi my husband has NSCLC stage 4 ..taking Taxotere IV for a hour and Carboplatin for 30 mins and has to take Vandetanib 100mg every day(this is his study meds)

He was supposed to have his last treatment last week but had to be postponed because his liver was not 100% but in another week will be fine...so his last treatment will be july 7th...meanwhile he has broken out in this rash on his arms that is sun sensitive and and whenever he is in the sun or heat he says it feels like prickly heat he describes it as like someone it shooting millions of needles in his face.... The onc looked at his rash and could not determine what caused it since his last treatment was june 9th..he says it might be a drug reaction... now my husbands arms he says that they feel like he has a crust on his arms.... they also itch like hell....has anyone have this happen to them?

Thanks and God Bless

Taxotere Cancer Taxol Pain Lyrica Burns Carboplatin Decadron Hydroxyzine

Hi,

Sounds like shingles. I have got them on and around my right shoulder blade - going along the right side of my chest and right front to middle of my chest. Itches like hell, burns and feels like needles. I have not and chemo or radiation for months and the shingles just came on. The doctor diagnosed it as shingles. And yes they are more painful to some then the cancer.

Just wishing mine would go away already.

Jen

oh I never even heard of them.... yes my husband says they are painful...itch so bad...but the bumps dont have pus in them... they are just raised ...and turn red in the sun..... itch and his lips turned black...... could this be from the taxol? Jen ..he wished his would go away too!!!!

God Bless

My husband and I went to beach after his 1st Chemo & Radiation treatments ended. Thought we would get a break away before 2nd round of treatments began. Well was I wrong. Husband broke out in rash on arms & legs and was itching like crazy. We had to come home early to see his Oncologist. Dr. said he thought it was sun related. Gave us medicine for itching (Hydroxyzine) which did not help. He was already taking 2 Predisones a day. I thought the rash and itching was coming from Chemo/Carboplatin/Navelbine but Dr. said he didn't think so. My husband recently had MRI which showed Mets to Brain and was put on Decadron. Well the itching stopped, thank goodness because it was driving him crazing. Don't know if it cleared up due to Decadron or not. Dr. said it is 4 times stronger steroid than Predisone. He has also been trying to stay out of sun, seems heat made it worst.

thanks -- it sounds like what my husband has...once in the sun his rash gets worse... now the skin on his arm is so dry it pulls when he moves it.... he has one more treatment left...I hope this wont stop it...

God Bless

Ouch! Sounds awful. I had pretty much the same thing on my chest and cheeks. My Oncman said it was the steroid (included in my chemo IV). He reduced the amount I was getting and it went away. Just a thought for you. I avoided the sun all the time so it wasn't related to that.
Best of luck solving the problem ..... Deb

ok thanks for everyones posts... God Bless!!!

Pls have antiviral antiobiotic immediately. If it already occurs more than 3 days, you might gonna to develop PHN (Neuropathy) for a long time if your immune system is low. You will need neurotin or lyrica to help to relieve the pain soon...
Best Wishes,
Regards,
Victoria

I am off chemo and have been since December, but back in May we went to a park on Mother's day and I started itching and got little red places, seemed like under the skin. It was 3 days after being at the park and I had a pet scan so it came on after the pet scan. I called them and they said it could have been from what they did their laundry in or the drink they gave me. I thought also I might have gotten poison ivt which never bothered me before, would only maybe get a little blister on a finger or something.....Then it ended up a red itchy rash on onside of arms, breast, legs and rear. I still don't know what it is and if I get hot it gets really prickly. I read somewhere they you should not be out in the sun during chemo and maybe even after. My neighbor lady always wore long sleeves, year round. My chemo was strong and consisted of taxol and carboplatin and since I developed the neuropathy the taxol was exchanged for taxotere for the last two treatments. My rash seems to have eased up some, but I still get that prickly sensation if I get a little hot and sweaty. Take care and good luck on having it go away. Mine is NOT shingles as I have had them before and they are painful as all get out and this is not painful but just itchy, I think you would know if it were shingles due to the pain. Take care, had a lot of toxins put into our systems and it makes lots of side effects. Mitzi

my wife had the same type of rash on her legs and torso. The rash was so severe that the doc took photos of it. He didn't know what caused it either. I applied apple cider vinegar to it twice daily and the rash was cleared up in about 10 days.
