Has anyone experienced shoulder pain from their port?

0 Recommendations

Thankfully, I've been NED for over 6 months but I've been having neck and shoulder pain that I believe is being caused by my power port. Could it have shifted and is now pressing on a nerve? I don't know, but I am having it removed on Wed. and I can't wait. For the last few days the pain has been terrible.

I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

I just had my port taken out last Tuesday after having it in for 1 1/2 years. Like you I was so ready to see that thing go! It had been causing me issues sleeping at night. My doc said he hears people complain about arm - shoulder pains alot with ports.
I have had a real surge of renewed energy since getting it out, and I think it may be partly due to my body not having to deal with protecting itself against a foreign object in me.
Congratulations on your NED! You will feel so much better after getting that out of you!
God bless,
Ellen

My husband was also having shoulder pain before he got his port out. The first thing he said after it was out was that he felt better already! If you're not using it (and hopefully not planning on using it) it should be taken out. Good luck.

take it out!!! You're NED - think positive and go forward! Get it out - just like you did with the cancer! I had myne taken out as soon as my chemo ended and I got my first NED test result!

I had my port taken out last December after a year and a half. It caused the same problems you are experiencing. It has been such a relief. I am back to doing the weight lifting machines at the gym. Even the simple act of vacuuming is so much easier. Congratulations on NED. Enjoy your new freedom!

Good luck and God Bless!

I love this site and all of you wonderful people! I am so relieved to find out that I'm not alone and the port is probably the cause of my shoulder/neck pain!

As soon as I became NED I wanted the port out but went along with the Dr's wishes to leave it in. I guess I hadn't told him that I never intended to have cancer again! :)

Thank you for sharing your stories with me. I was worried that removing the port wasn't the answer to my shoulder/neck problems - now I think it is.

Merylee, that's great you're getting your port out tomorrow - what wonderful news. I can imagine what a relief it will be being pain free!
