Hair Regrowth After PCI

0 Recommendations

I wondered if anyone here could share their experience regarding hair regrowth after PCI. At the end of my chemo the doctor suggested PCI. One of the chemo nurses said "They forget to tell you that your hair doesn't grow back after brain radiation." I asked the radiologist and he said it will grow. Anyway, I lost my hair due to chemo in mid-May. Chemo ended 7-9. By late August I had almost a half inch of hair. On 8-30 I started the PCI which ended on 9-10 and 2 weeks later I was very bald! To date there is no sign of hair regrowth. I'm begining to wonder if the nurse was right.

My husband finished PCI in June and has no hair at this time. Sorry...

Hi there again,
I finished my PCI in October of 06, it took almost 4 month for some and I mean some hair to grow. As time went on the hair started to grow a bit better. Here I am 2 years later, I do have hair but it is very fine ( like baby hair ) and still thin. You will notice that the hair right in the middle of your head will take the longest to grow back...I still feel like I am kinda bald there. I had beautiful thick hair, down to my bum before and it was hard for me for a while but what de heck...hair is just hair. I AM ALIVE and I deal with the hair.
God bless you
Kerstin

I know some of my In Person LC Support Group members who did PCI took them about 6 to 9 months before there hair started to come it. It was a slower process then when they did chemo, AND there hair came back thinner then before, but they do have hair.
These are now long term SCLC survivors.

My Mom's hair took a while to grow back after PCI as well. She finished PCI early last winter and her hair started coming back this summer.

Like Kersten said, the middle top part was the slowest to grow. The good news is her hair is thicker now than it was before she got diagnosed!

She made the comment yesterday that this will be the first Holiday Season in 2 years where she won't have to wear a scarf!!

I was told by radiation oncologist that it would not. I found a better ratiation place. As it turns out it was not even necessary at that time. I think it depends on the radition oncologist and their equipment.

My husband had pci in june 08. He lost all of his hair, but we were talking last night about how he really needs a haircut. So yes it does grow back. Its real soft, like baby hair, but theres alot of it. Good Luck!! Pat
