Getting the word out

Need some help with figures here. I remember that $1400 is the amount spent on research for people with lung cancer, but what is the figure for other cancers. Todays headline in our local paper was that our Assit Fire Chief died of cancer. I work for the city as well and have followed his care page from day one, but most people did not know what kind of cancer he had because it popped out here, there, and everywhere. Anyway I just thought this would be a good time to hit up the paper to do an article for November awareness month. Have we gotten any other states onboard for this?

I thought (but not 100% sure), it was $13,000 or more for breast cancer patients. Sammi Hawkins should be able to answer your questions. I believe she or Amy have all of the figures.

I copied this from the national cancer site thy should be in column but the first amount is 2005 then 2006 and 2007. So we are 3rd in funding

Cancer Site 2005 Spending
(actual, in millions)
2006 Spending
(estimated, in millions) 2007 Spending
(estimated, in millions)
Breast $560.1 $557.3 $551.1
Colorectal $253.1 $251.9 $249.1
Lung $266.1 $264.8 $261.9
Prostate $309.0 $309.0 $305.6

Hi Julie,

These two links should tell you what you need to know. The first has research dollars on the second page. The second has the map where you can see what states have declared November as LCAM and what states haven't.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Amy

I should also mention, the funding info we have is just for a few cancers, but take a look at the links that are listed as the sources of info, and you should be able to find the funding numbers for other cancers as well.

Thanks everyone, I actually got a reply email back from the editor of our paper. He wanted to know if I would be willing to be interviewed by a reporter. H*ll yeah, I'll talk to anyone who will listen.

Way to go jadams!!!
