Gemzar/Bone pain?

0 Recommendations

Well today was my 3rd week of Gemzar, 3rd round, and besides the usual burning during infusion, my arms were really aching tonight. Then my legs and back were hurting, as you can see, I can't sleep.

Anyone else get pain with Gemzar? The odd thing is that my wbc was up so I didn't need Neulasta which normally causes the pain.

I took the hour drive by myself today, after two years of having someone, friend or relative at my side, I think they are ready to get back to their own lives. I really am OK to drive but it is nice to have someone with. Maybe I shouldn't act like everything is normal.

Taxol Acne Pain Tarceva Morphine

Hi Linda,

Well I am up because I am working. But Taxol made my sister's legs hurt and she used these patches called SALONPAS that you can get at Walmart. She says it did help her where the icy hot did not. Her onc said they were fine to use as really they create a distraction from the pain so you think it is working. Anyway, you should give them a try.

Good Morning Easter Baby!

I wrote that down on a post it and will look for it on my next trip to Walmart. Thanks for your quick response.

PS, Great News that your sister is NED, I love the Happy Dances!

Linda

I hope it does the trick so please let me know. My niece uses it and she told us about them. They are not expensive and you get quite a few of them.

PS I am still dancing!

Hi Linda, Tues. was my 6th Gemzar IV and it's not been as bad as I expected, ...yet. The nurse slows the drip as much as possible and mixes it with 3X the normal amount of saline so that it doesn't burn going in anymore. She also lays a heating pad on the arm which may just distract me but helps anyway and then flushes the vein with pure saline at the end. I have (once) had the used vein swell and inflame like a red licorice strip. I think, this happened on the 3rd day after tax. when the steroids wore off and most of the side effects hit. I don't get leg pain but I get restless leg and feel jittery etc, which I think is also from the steroids. For at least 2 nights I have trouble sleeping.........steroids. I am 66 yrs but get an acne like breakout every time....... very annoying. I have a bit of trouble with nausea and food taste, don't even want to eat, so have to force myself. Thats my experience with Gemzar, wish I could be of more help. Since pain is an expected side effect of Gemzar, I think your oncologist should know what meds might help with it.
Hope you have good results and the pain disappears.
Good Luck!
Irene

Hi Irene,

Maybe it's cause I went 3 weeks in a row usually its two on one off. I am off the steroids which I am glad cause I hated them. I also get a heat pad to put on my arm during input and it helps a little.
The Onc did give me some pain pills but I try not to take them unless I really need them. I probably should have taken one before I went to bed last night.

I am feeling a little better today.
Thanks,
Linda

Hi Linda

gemzar also caused me a lot if joint and muscle pain. My ONC gave me Hydrocodone which helped a lot. They suggested I take it on a routine so that I stay ahead of the pain. I started Tarceva a while ago and am now back on the pain med routine and am able to get some sleep!! Predisone also gave me some relief but I dislike taking it due to weight gain.

I Hope you fget some relief soon.

Hugs
