Gamma Knife...moms update

0 Recommendations

So I haven't been online for a while cause its been crazy busy around here. Mom came home from the hospital over a week ago. She's been eating more, taking her nausea meds and magace. Still not eating as much as she should but she does act alot better. She's been walkin on the tredmill and lifting light weights to try to build some muscle back up. As i posted before, the newest mri showed a nodule on the brain so we traveled to charlottsville VA to the university of VA for her first consult for Gamma knife. She will have the procedure on tuesday. The thing that keeps worrying me is that she's soooo weak. She still 76lbs and its hard for her to get around because of how weak her leg muscles are. Her vitals all look good and she's actually staying awake through the day and sleep through the night. Hasn't thrown up in a week now. Surprised me today when she told us to stop at burger king and get her a jr whopper on the way home form UVA. Maybe thats a start since she's only been taking the magase for a week now. We are also going to go against the oncologist wishes and demand radation on the adrenal mass. she's in so much pain and when that is hurting she doesn feel like eating so its not helping. he just wanted as a marker to see if chemo was working but come on, when is it enough. its 12cm big right now. So yes that is the update. I officially lost my job on monday because I've run out of FMLA time. Not a biggie, they said themselves its on good terms so they'll hire me back no questions asked. I think thats all.

Kally - hang in there - you're doing the best you can under the circumstances - praying for your mom!

How old is your mom?

mom just turned 52 yesterday

Wow, and I thought I was tiny. I was 92 lbs at one point in my fight and I'm 5'7". SEVERELY underweight. I'm still not back to normal weight, though, either. ;)

I'm praying for your mom. It sounds like she's doing much better on her new meds. I pray that she can continue to develop an appetite. This new mass of mine is causing a lot of pain and upsetting my appetite, so I understand where she's coming from in that. It's hard to eat when the pain is making you nauseated.

Hang in there and keep doing the GREAT job you are doing in supporting your mom. :) You are an awesome child!

I was starting to get worried about you because you hadn't been on in awhile. Sorry to hear about your job. Just what you needed, right? Good luck with the gamma knife and with getting the radiation. Tell mom to keep eating those whopper jrs!!!! ~Linda
