Gamma Knife

0 Recommendations

After getting a second opinion for removing tumors in my father brain, we were told to stop the radiation (a week into a 3 week procedure) because the MD deemed it "unnecessary" comparing it to killing a rat with a bomb.

Since stopping radiation, he has lost all sensation in his left leg and is beginning to lose sensation in his left hand.

This morning he underwent the Gamma Knife procedure. Has anyone undergone the gamme knife?
Or had similar symptoms?

I haven't personally gone through Gamma Knife but know four people well who have. As was said before, it is MUCH better for side effects than whole brain radiation. Glad to see they switched and hope they got it all.

Best wishes,
Sheila

My father underwent the procedure yesterday and began to see a slight difference but is still unable to walk. The radiation made his brain swell to the point that he can barely feel ..

The DR cannot guarantee he will walk again. Hopefully in time he will get better

Dear CancerKiller,

My dad had gama knife for his brain tumor in this March. His tumor has gone completely. He can write again. Then he didnt feel any side affects of Gama Knife. I hope your father will feel good soon.

Good Luck.

My father has gotten worse. I don't know if it's because he had the procedure done a few days ago but he has now lost a little sensation in his other leg.

Last night, he woke up with a lot of pain in his ankle and his leg began to jump. We thought he was going to have a seizure because his whole body began jumping with his leg.

Thankfully, he did not have a seizure. We are on pins and needles waiting for the slightest sign of improvement.

Thank you for all your comments and concerns.. Blessings!

I had Gamma Knife last Sept. and today my MRI showed no evidence of brain tumors. I experienced no side effects from the radiation and I hope your dad will have excellent results as well.

It's scary and a little frustrating, trying to figure out what treatments are best. This site is great for support and information - just remember we are all different and may respond to treatments differently but the one thing we all have in common is we are very committed to beating this "cruel monster"!

I had five brain mets and they were all gamma knifed, no recurrence, only slight head pressure that was treated with small dose of steroids. I refused WBR,I personally believe it should only be used as last resort, it's been 1 year w/only one treatment of gamma knife. I'm hoping it will be the new standard of care for brain mets.

What does the doctor say the numbness is caused from? You need to clarify, did he have tumors or metastases from another site?

Sending you love and prayers....

My father's tumors mestastasized from the right lung. They were removed from with the gamma knife. He received 6 of the 15 WBR sessions.

On Thursday, he had 3 seizures. After being at the hospital only 24 hours he has regained some sensation in his leg and arm.

The problem was severe swelling. Initially from the WBR and it worsened with the gamma knife. There's a name for the "double swelling" which I can't recall.

I would definetly recommend the gamma knife vs wbr. It worked wonders for my father. I HIGHLY recommend DR. Wolf at Doctor's Hospital in Miami, FL

Thank you for all your love, support, blessings, comments, and knowledge. I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this site and all those who have given me their feedback :)

My husband also has Dr. Wolf as his doctor. He has received gamma knife on 5 lessions. Dr. Wolf is on top of his patients and monitors brain closely.
