Some background first, I was dx with small cell lung cancer Dec. 27 2008. Done more tests first of Jan 2009 the tumor was wrapped around my heart, 3 1/2 inches wide at its largest point going to nothing the lenght of my left lung, lymph nodes in chest, right shoulder, both adrenals, right femur, left inside pelvic area. First two chemos, along with 5 weeks of radiation pulled a lot of pounds off of me. God has been good ! My question is since march I have gained about 10 pounds every two months am now at 260 lbs, its like instead of not eating I can't seem to stop eating has anyone else had this problem...

Yes, I do! I was at the point of people calling me too thin, and to try and eat, and now I am like a beached whale. I guess it is not that uncommon for us. We also could have some fluid build up. I do, i went to the doctor after having gained 90 pounds. i don't weigh myself at home, and was shocked at how fast I was putting on weight ,I am sure it has ben a few pounds a month and now this! I am taking water pills and so far it has only been about 10 days, i thought I was losing weight and decided to weigh myself, and found i have not lost weight even on the water pills. it is horrible.
god bless and good luck ,if you find out anything let me know.
I am not active at all since i have trouble breathing and am very short of breath on any exertion. So I guess a good old regular diet is what we really need, Want to join a club with me. The fat farm, LOL. I know it is not really funny, but what else can we do but cry?

Are you on steroids? They also increaase your appetite and can make you look puffy also.Sandy, hang in there and keep the information coming To FB.You always have the right stuff.Regards to you AndiB

Hi andiB,
Yes I am on the breathing machine nebulizer steriodal meds. alb nebs and another one, also on singulair, i am not sure if this is a steroid I should look. But I have been on all of these for a while now. I am sure it is CHF.
I just want to be skinny!
Love you Sandy

Hi FB... steroids were my first thought as I am on high doses due to Radiation Pneumonitis and the appetite is almost overwhelming! BUT.. my second thought was thyroid.. A routine blood test found me to have very low thyroid function so in my case I am Hyper thyroid ... I am sure I would have gained 25 lbs in the last few weeks instead of 10 if not for that. Endocrinologist states that steroids can alter the thyroid function.. High or Low and I have to wait to see if when off of meds it goes back to normal. Even if your not on steroids a simple blood test can see if your thyroid function could be the culprit! I wish you tons of luck and sending good thoughts!

They gave me steroids when I was doing chemo and I gained about 25 pounds...most people lose weight...not me I have blossomed...My cholesterol is high too and the doctor told me to lay off baked goods/sweets. My onc though told me when I was doing chemo...eat...keep eating...I don't care what it is ...just keep eating....and obviously I took her advice. I had been doing weight watchers for more than a year and needless to say, I must have been more than willing to quit and eat everything in site.
