what exactly is considered first line treatment?
I think all that first line treatment means is that there are a number of choices and one is chosen as "first line". If that doesn't work, you move on to second and so on. The actual treatments can vary. Although I do know that what my mom had (carboplatin / taxol) is a common first line. HTH
Oh and I think that radiation can be done as well, but that's different. The lines of treatment seem to relate to chemo.
Basically means how many times you have had chemo. I have had it 5x so far so I'm on my 5th line.
If anyone has a different answer let me know. This was always my understanding.
I actually think it's how many different kinds of chemo you've had?
that's right - first line is the first set of chemo drugs you take. the second set would be second line. and so on.
what takes your from first line to second line is either that the first line quit working or that it was too hard on your system (real bad side effects) or that it wasn't working well enough.
the unfortunate other name for non-first line chemos is "rescue" chemos. what an awful name for something that could work better than the first line!
