Film I made for my dad - maybe it can help you, too

1 Recommendation

Hi, my name is Kate and my dad was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer back in 2005. This was, as I'm sure you understand, the biggest shock my family had ever experienced. After a whole slew of treatments (chemo, radiation, surgery, more surgery, etc.), things were stable enough for me to leave for film school. For my final project of my first year, I made a film about my journey through my dad's diagnosis and treatment. It helped me so much to make it, it helped my family to watch it, and I can only hope that maybe, just maybe, it can help someone who has gone through--or who is going through--what my family and I have been going through. My movie was posted online today on a science/nature podcast site at http://www.lifeonterra.com. I invite you to watch it.

Your choice of shots was always wonderful. The animal shots were among the best anywhere.

Kate - thank you for making such a beautiful film - the part where they ask if your dad smoked was so "on point" for me. I know just how you felt - and my tears flowed with yours then - your artistic skill is obvious - you love for your dad shows through as a caregivers usually does. Loved the head shaving part - you do have guts! Praying for your dad....

Hi, Kate. I just watched your film and was really moved. I cried when you talked about what it was like for you to hear the word cancer, then lung cancer. I could relate to so much of what you expressed - especially that stupid question people just have to ask, "Did he smoke?".
My husband - diagnosed stage IV July 07, myself and my 12 1/2 year old step daugther are all walking this path of cancer together. It is so difficult! as you know, and so scary. It is hard to stay in the present, isn't it? when all you can do is fear for the future. My husband very much wants to get a videocamera to document his experiences, especially for our daughter. Can I ask you what camera you used?? It turned out really great. We have Macs, and we are both rather illiterate about video cams, but have friends and Consumer Reports to guide us. You don't need to respond to my question, I know you have a lot on your plate. But if you do, I'd appreciate it. What I want you to know most of all though, is that I really appreciate you posting your video on the site! Thank you,
Susie
