Extreme Fatigue

0 Recommendations

WOW!! It is difficult for me to believe how tired and weak I am. I had a bout with pnemonia, was in the hospital for 8 days and felt great when I got out. I had chemo (carboplatin+alimta+avastin) a week ago Monday and I have been zapped since then.

I was previously on alimta+avastin and took a break at the onc's recommendation and the cancer worsened. I had great scans for 7 months and when I was in the hospital my cancer was stable oce again. I am just wondering if the carboplatin is the culprit to my extreme fatigue and if anyone has any suggestions for me. Other than my fatigue my quality of life is fine -

I have heard that some people take meds for energy - anyone have any they take that work?

hey, Kathy,
carbo can knock you on your butt if you're not careful - first, drink water - or juice or popcicles - and flush it out. second, the biggest thing you can do to fight fatigue is exercise - a lot of studies suggest that light exercise (for example, walking around a short distance) will help a lot. there is one important point that you need to remember - tell your onc nurse and ask "is this normal?" - if it is, you will rest easier, if your degree of fatigue is not normal, then the doctor needs to hear about it.

hoping you feel better soon!!! hang in there!!!

Thanks for the reply - I think maybe I haven't been drinking enough fluids this time aound so I will definitely increase that. I haven't been walking like usual beause it has been so cold - I suppose that does play a big part in it all.

Thank for your support.

Karen -

Thanks for the support - think I'll go get a bottle of water and put my shoes on and take the dog out.

Thank you.

Kathy

My dog saved my sanity when I was going thru chemo - now he makes sure I get out and walk alot - you will feel better if you are active. I know it hard - and cold dosen't help - but I feel better when I go to the gym and move my body - drink something that will restore your electrolites too! Hang in there!!!! We/I am here .....

and don't forget to laugh - cancer cannot grow in the presence of silliness and giggles....
