Please tell me there are you miracles out there that are still going strong with extensive sclc???? Anyone in remission???
I need my Dad and he just began the battle,he's doing ok,feels good and no reaction to round 1 of chemo.
I want him here for many years,can anyone give me hope????

I was diagnosed with ext. sclc in Oct. of 2006. I am 50 yrs. old. I've had clean scans since completion of chemo in Feb. 2007. I'll be getting scans again this week or next. There is hope, keep the faith. God answers prayers, he certainly did mine. I will pray for you and your father.
Thank you!! Where was yours?? My Dad has his in his upper lobe near his bronchial tube and in his pelvic bone and femur bone, He is 64.

i've been reading your posts and i know how hard this diagnosis is to deal with. our sis diagnosed with ext sclc aug 08. a lot of information out there is very skerry and a lot is very encouraging. i think at the end of the day, none of us were born with a date stamped on the bottom of our foot. as our cancer nurse navigator described it to us ...... the whole treatment of this disease is a journey. i found i was a much better caregiver when i wasn't dreading each turn in the road. pray a lot, enjoy every day and keep the hope in your heart. good thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

Ext. SCLC here, dxd 11/06, after 8 months of chemo, radiation, PCI, NED since 06/07. There is definitely Hope. Prayers coming your way!!!!!!!!!
There is a lady named Ann that I first met on this site 2 1/2 years ago. At that time she was a 3 year survivor of SCLC. She does not post here much anymore but her Doctor told her a few months ago that he considered her "cured". ( I believe that was the word he used) I will double check and get back to you if that is not the term he used.
My Mom survived 2 1/2 years after diagnosis. She had a great quality of life until the last 2 weeks. In fact you would have never known she had cancer if it hadn't been for the hair loss. She beat it into remission twice! She was still working part time and chasing after her 4 year old Grandson!
There is hope! A positive attitude is also key!

Just thought I'd let you know my bloodwork was great! Don't know when scans are yet. Mine was in my left lower lung, femur, pelvis, and liver. The doctor told me upon completion of chemo that he could'nt make up a better scan. Positive attitude is definately a plus.
The power of prayer is amazing and I will keep you guys in mine. I would also like to hear how Ann is doing, I've seen her mentioned here before. Keep me posted.

I have two gals in my In Person Lung Cancer Support Group who are long term Small Cell LC Survivors.
Janet is now 68 years young. She was dx.d extensive (spead to her liver), she did Cisplatin/VP-16 and is soon to be a10 year SCLC Survivor in May. She also did PCI within her first two years of being a survivor. (it was somewhat new back then) She is cancer free today and has been all this time. Janet does volunteer work with cancer patients and hospice.
Melanie is 53 and she was dx.d limited small cell lc. She too did Cisplatin/VP-16 as well as chest radiation and PCI. This was 8 years ago. She too continues to be cancer free. She is still working.
I also met a lady via ALCASE (Lung Cancer Allinace) about 12 years ago who was a 13 year small cell lung cancer survivor back then. I have not kept in touch with Lois, but she did win and Award from ALCASE "Moments that Matter" about being a lung cancer survivor and I was asked to present her with the award, what an honor that was.
Never give up hope. And Never say never. I know this disease can be beat, I've seen many who have beat it and continue to beat it both Small Cell and Non Small Cell alike.

I had upper right lobe removed and then cancer came back, check my bio. I am 71 and in August I will be three years free (NED).....and really enjoying the grandkids. Keep him busy and laughing. Our prayers will be with your family. You will love this site, the people are marvelous. Hugs

Ann had limited SCLC. She really help me get through the tough time of gathering information at the time of my diagnoses, Dec 2005. We both went through the same treatment 30 day Radiation, Carboplatin and Etopside (VP-16) regime. She became my light as she had already made it to 3 years, at that time, early 2006. Mine returned almost three years exactly this past Dec. I want to think she had hers return also, but I might be wrong. She posted a message stating her Dr. pronounced her "cured" about two years ago. I have written to her a few times in the past, but I have not received a reply.

My 2nd mother (my boyfriend's mom who i've been close with for years) was diagnosed with extensive sclc in October 2008. She's been fighting strong for 6 months and has years ahead of her. It's in her lung, lymphnode, bones, femur, spine, rib and recently several liver spots. We too are in search of any and all inspirational stories and can't wait to share hers when she reaches remission. It is absolutely possible to beat this! She is a 53yr nurse, mother and grandmother.
Her first treatment (oct to jan) attempt was platinum based (Cisplatin +others) but she her cancer grew. Her 2nd treatment attempt (jan to mar)was a clinical trial we found out of state (Topotecan + Avastin) which is derived from chinese Hamster Ovaries which we joked about, but her cancer grew and mets more. She just started a new treatment last week (Taxotere) which surely will be 3rd time's the charm. She is weak, but optimistic. We have no doubt that with enough love and tlc she'll have full and fabulous life!

Thank you for your reply. I am hopeful that my dad is one of the survivors of the SCLC. He's doing ok so far. The Onc. said the treatments are working and he gained 4 pounds. He will get his next scan sometime next week. Please keep your fingers crossed!
We have been somewhat blessed by this situation. We have met MANY WONDERFUL people and have learned to love more and fight less and really appreciate the people and things around us!!

It's so hard in the beginning, the shock of it, especially when you hear the prognosis. My Dad was dx. in May 2008 and it still hanging in there and doing pretty good considering his age and other health problems.. He is receiving Topotecan right now, just started 2 weeks ago. He had the VP-16 last year and got good results from that. His had spread to his spine and liver. I never thought in the beginning he would be here this long, it sounded so hopeless, but you learn to hang on to any good news you can get. Keep the Faith.

I am in your same boat. I went with my dad this morning. I'm 32 and he's 60. He was diagnosed this morning and we were told 1-2 yrs. I didn't react until a few hours later. Who's going to help me with my home projects? My car? My computer? I'm engaged...will he be able to walk me down the isle? My best friends grandmother had the same cancer, and she told me she survived for 8 yrs. My dad said he's up for the fight....I hope I can make it with him.
