I only listen to one doctor, the one that I can see eye to eye, face to face. I take other opinions and weigh heavily on what I know. I have seen some blogs of this Dr. and because I am an individual, he has never seen me or my medical records, I will go with the dr. who has. Good luck.

You have got to be kidding?!?!?! People have joined claiming to be oncologist and were not? How freaking sick can you get. They will get theirs in the next realm.

On the other hand here, I am a Registered nurse, and have made mention of the fact of what my occupation was in the past, as many others have as well, we do have many nurses on our site. we like anyone else try and give our own personal opinions just like anyone would do. Nobody has asked me or anyone else as far as I know to show credentials. I certainly hope the good doctor does not take offense. I can not imagine someone coming on board here to lie like that. I think it also should be up to the people who monitor this site to be sure it is safe for all of us. If we know this is the case, then nobody has to be embarrassed by calling someone on their profession. As long as we do not diagnose or give anyone a prognosis we should be alright. . i just hope if he is an oncologist, which I did believe he was, that he understands nobody means him any harm and we welcome his opinion.
So far the guy is right on the money from what I have seen him write.
He may have a loved one or be suffering himself from lung cancer for all we know. Give him a chance here.I hope we haven't scared him away.

I agree with Sandy also. Similar to what Dr. West does, no one, at any time should assume that any information received over the internet takes the place of a visit to the doctor and in-person medical advice. That said, I welcome the informal perspective of medical professionals here.

I think the moderators do a good job of keeping up with who's who and what's what and trust that if they have suspicions, they will do their due diligence privately.

So far Owesly has been nothing but gracious. However, Connie, it is a good reminder to us all that this is cyberspace and we need to be personally responsible.

UM...Doc, hope you don't mind if I "out" you here, while defending you.

"owesly" is an Oncologist in Springfield Illinois. When he first posted I looked at his profile and did a little research. Sure, some sicko could be pretending to be this oncologist, but then, I could be pretending to be a wife of a cancer fighter.

Doc, I asked about the clinical trial for avistin and our onc said it is only for patients who haven't had topotecan yet, so Mike isn't able to get into that trial. If you have any other ideas, please send me a message. Thanks.

I have appreciated the thoroughness and kindness shown by Owesly in his responses. I did not get the impression that he was trying to impose his opinion on anyone about anything.

During the time that I have been a member I have not seen anyone pretending to be a doctor. Connie, you've been posting on this board a lot longer than I have, so I am not doubting that you have run into that situation. I'm just astonished that someone would do that and I don't get the impression that Owesly is one of those people.

Hey Friends, I am NOT SAYING Dr. Owesly is a fake. NO, NO, NO, NO! I have had a few people PM me asking me what I think about him. I think he's a very nice man and Doctor to come here and be so kind. I have seen doctor's do this as well.

I just meant that NOT EVERYONE IS WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE! Sad, but TRUE!

I just thought maybe the Admin people would be so kind as to check it out for us is all. PLEASE I am NOT trying to be negative about this in any way shape or forum.

Yes, I have seen people many many moons ago come on 2 lung cancer boards (this being one of them) claiming to be something or someone they are not. Just when you THINK you have seen it all, something pops up and proves you wrong. I have even seen people PRETEND to have lung cancer. BUT I am NOT trying to pick on Dr. Owesly. I believe he is sincere and trying to offer some good things to us and his heart is pure.

I'm just offering an IDEA for having LCA check it out being we have people questioning it. I, myself don't have a problem with this kind man.

I have to agree with Sandy also. I have reread all his responses and he is not recommending anything. He tries to answer questions and then refers them back to their own doctors. I see no difference then getting answers from Dr. West and others at cancergrace.org.

Hey Folks, I am NOT saying this dear man is or has done anything wrong. In my eyes he's been very helpful, doctor or no doctor. All I am Saying is, people have PM'D me and THEY have concerns. I am trying to help. That's it! Not trying to accuse anyone of anything here. Okay? If you wish to go back and see what I wrote to this man, you will see I had no problems with him and still don't.

I am NOT thinking bad things of this man. But I have seen where people aren't who they say they are on these board. Like it or not, it's true! I honestly felt if I made mention to the Admin people here, they would take over this issue, rather then having people PM me about it.

My Intentions are GOOD! And just trying to help. My goodness things sure can get messed up! OY VEY! I'm NOT a moderator and I hope they will jump in and handle this if they feel it's worth looking into. I personally don't care one way or the other.

omg... i liked his advice and appreciated it. The thing that started this was: he was attacked when he offered advice by a few members and all i wanted was to have LCA verify he is a doc..so those saying he shouldnt offer his advice...etc and there were a few who jumped down his throat so to speak. I emailed connie to see if there was a way to get LCA to verify so everyone would be satisfied.. I felt bad for this man who came to us offering assistance and what he got was a slap in the face by some members. CONNIE....was only asking on my behalf to verify that he is who he says he is. She in no way implied he was lying. We were both trying to solve an issue before it became...well THIS MESS>
I am terribly sorry you all misunderstood our intentions. but these days you have to be careful. But this site is here to help us. Thats what I want. but i am also sick of few people taking issue with everything someone else might say that doesnt agree with them.

i feel Connie was/is just watching out for us. i too googled dr o wesly to be sure he is who he says he is. seems to me because he is already on the internet through the springfield clinic he could have put that in his profile rather than have people wonder his credentials. from the discusiion on brain mets, i wondered. sometimes people come online seeming to want to help and after a while you can tell they had another agenda. i have been through this and before and would rather never again. thank you connie for trying to watch our backs. i appreciate it. t

Post positively is exactly what we are supposed to be doing. I am not taking issue with anyone just protecting an innocent bystander. No one on here is ever asked to verify who they are? What is this a credit check for Gods sake? This is a support group, meaning support all who come to join, not just people you want to join. It doesn't matter if someone has been a member on this site for years, or if they just came on board today, all are welcome, not just the old timers. Correct me if I am wrong, but here I don't believe you can get seniority just from being a member of this site for so many years! If there is ever a person that comes on here to commit fraud then it should not go behind the backs to support members in little whispers. It should go right to administration for them to check out. If it is a surgeon, or a meat cutter makes no difference. In our eyes, on this site we are here to heal, and help others to heal. I need not have to remind anyone of that. This should have never been posted on a support group board for all to see.. Now it looks shameful, and embarrassing for this doctor..
I haven't been disgusted before on this site, but I am now.
