Do I Dare???

I just received an email from ACS that at our local University they are having "the Great American Smoke Out" Sponsored by no other but ACS.
I am so tempted to go there just to challenge ACS for funding and not just smoking cessation groups.
In the very next paragraph they are promoting Karaoke at Walter Peytons Restaurant to sing for Breast Cancer Research. Both are in Aurora, IL.
I am not very comfortable as a public speaker and I know I would be so nervous in front of a crowd of people. I would probably need some support and a couple rum & cokes, but I am definitely considering both events.
PS. Start a collection jar just in case I need bail money.

You Go Linda! Each of us speaking out - getting out of our own comfort zone is what will spread the word. And maybe we'll make enough of a rumble that we will finally be heard.

Go for it-with the rum and cokes of course! Any and every opportunity that you can find is a chance that can't be missed. Grab it and run. Most people do not know the statistics or who is affected by this disease. Most people live with that false sense of security that this will never affect them because they don't smoke. Just think of how many people you may touch who just might entertain the thought that they might have LC because of the info that you have given them.
Will start saving for bail $$

Fraid I only deal in euros but if you need extra bail money give me a mail!
Go for it, we are off out tonight to a cancer charity function and shall be telling anybody who will listen that it is NOT just smokers that get the dreaded LC.

Linda,
GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You got my support. Wish I was closer, I'd come help you(drink the rum and cokes). LOL Just kidding. We know you can do it. Just keep in mind how important this could be for all of us to get the word out. I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted if you should participate. Karen

not just smokers that get lung cancer...no its not..however...as a smoker...i dont think i deserve to die such a horrible disease. Doesn't matter if you smoked since you were 10..or never smoked. no one deserves to have this disease and be pushed aside because its a "smokers" disease. Funding should be there no matter what. After all didnt the tobacco companies pay out millions because the smokers sued and the money was supposed to go for: 1. treatment 2. research 3. smoking cessation.
Where did the money go? certainly not research..and i know during my treatments they never so much as paid for one radiation//ct scan or even nausea meds.
NO ONE deserves this disease. Non-smokers, never smokers...or smokers.
