disability

Hello everyone. Its so nice to find this place.I had my right lung removed a little over 3 years ago and so far i have had ned scans altho my last one was in dec. and my next one is this dec.I worked at my job for 23 years but lost it because of the long recovery i had. I was just informed that I lost my long term disability from work(which didnt amount to much) because my onco report said I was in remission and my prognosis is good. The thing I worry about now is my social security disability.Altho I hope and pray I remain ned my breathing is no where close to what it used to be.Sometimes i get winded just doing simple things. And I know the only jobs that I would be able to do or that would hire me would not pay nothing and most likely not offer me insurance. And then if my cancer would return i would not have anything. Do they take all this in when they review your case every 3 years. I feel good most of the time and feel like I can do what I used to do but when I get up and start getting physical thats when my body reminds me Im not what I used to be. I am by no means trying to hustle the system and would love to go back to the way things were before cancer. Has anyone here had there disability or medicare dropped only to have their cancer to reoccur. Thanks alot. Replys most welcome.

I don't know but need to know about ss disability too.

My SS disablility app was sent to state this week. Keeping my fingers crossed. You can check status on line but I'm afraid too.

I got my ss the reall thing. Had to be disabled for 5 months and had put in enough money. Anyway mine isn't called ss disability. You may have to be a certain age but i need to find out becasue my brother now has lung cancer and going through the same thing(he is only 53?

I think it is dependent upon what your physician documents as to your status as disabled.

I am a year and a half out from having my whole right lung removed. I certainly am grateful I can do the normal things in life but my stamina is still very low and hills and stairs cause shortness of breath.

I will be so grateful to get 3 years as you have, that I think if SS says I'm ok to work I'll be happy to try. I do know that it will be a physcian's call and probably your pulmonologist's decision.

My doctor's would certainly be in my corner to err on the side of my sense of abilities.

I'm guessing they will extend.

Thank you all for your replys. You are right Marion,I too would be happy to give it a try but I worry about recurrance after that. But I need to get my head back into today and let all that stuff take care of itself. I need to get another clean scan in Dec. before i even need to consider any of this other stuff. I have read alot of good news here from other posts and hope to be a frequent member. Thanks again.

I was approved for SS disability within a few weeks. I won't get my first check until February.
They have a list, and you can find it online on their website. If what you have is "expected to end in death" it's an automatic and is expedited. Inoperable lung cancer is also on the list. I don't know how long but I do know there is a longer period of time before they will re-evaluate you if you have certain conditions. Of course what's true today will probably change over the next few years.
My doctor told me nowadays they just ask for a copy of the records instead of having them fill out a form.

Good luck to you.

Laurie
