Hello,

Green tea contains naturally occuring catechins - compounds that have especially good antioxidant benefits. Several studies have also shown these plant chemicals have the ability to create apotosis (cellular death) in a number of cancer cell lines, including breast cancer. The therapeutic dose for green tea is 3-4 cups a day (American size, over in Japan - 8-10 cups is the equivalent--their cup size is so much smaller!). A few years ago I presented the latest nutrition findings for cancer patients and conducted case studies with two women (one ER+ and one ER-) to demonstrate the value of nutrition to Japanese medical professionals. I was amazed at how much green tea these women consumed....so my point here is that green tea is but one key component to fighting breast cancer. There are many cancer control pathways to be addressed. I would encourage you seek the help of a professional who specializes in oncology and nutrition.

Hi Brigitte,

There have been numerous studies done on the effects of green tea and it is not just for breast cancer. Lung cancers also have shown response to the effects of what is known as the EGCG in the catechins of green tea.

Here is a short article about tea and in other foods in the fight against cancer:

My father who was diagnosed stage 4 11/08, decided on no treatment and was given "4-6 months or less" has been taking green tea extract suggested by a holistic doc. Today you would never know he is sick! Is it b/c of the green tea...prob not, could it have made a difference? Maybe!!! There are numerous studies that talk about the positive effects of green tea on lung cancer. As Dr. Kim suggests please discuss with your doc.

Actually, I make green tea and honey during the summer time just like I used to make regular tea in a Sun Tea Jar. If it's beneficial that's great, but it tastes terrific. I let it steep in my one gallon sun tea jar until cool, strain and refrigerate. I add honey to taste, and a few ice cubes. Great summer time cooler.

Love to all,
Marylou

Thank u all for your advice
God bless u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Brigitte
I have studied a lot about home remedies for cancer cure because of my Mom's Lung Cancer.
Green Tea is actually one of the bests.
Try to keep going on drinking as much as you can, green or black tea but green is the best one , as well as broccoli, carrot, berries-any kind-, tomato as these contain lots of Anti Oxidants.
Also i usually try to find Breast Milk for her, if you could find any nursing mother in your neighbourhood, it contains lots of immune factors which help you to fight the disease.

Take Care

One thing that I found really scary was that vitamin A taken in vitamin form, not from food, actually increases cancer growth. i read that vitamin d is wonderful for preventing lung cancer reoccurrence.

Hi, I thought beta-carotene(from carrots) actually is bad for people w/lung cancer. Thought it also increases cancer growth...but have been drinking lots of green tea, eating lots of blueberries, eating walnuts, cutting down on my stress, having accup. hoping it all helps. Read "anti-cancer" it's a great book and talks about all of it.

Hi Scared1,
I enjoy reading stories like your dads. What else is he doing besides green tea? Please read "Fighting Cancer through Nutrition" and "How to Fight Cancer and Win." He should read Dr. Budwig's diet of low fat cottage cheese and flax oil. Eat naturally with very little if any (preferrably none) meat (Fish like salmon OK - not shellfish), and no sugars. I truly believe this all helps tremenduously, along with vitamin supplements. Since he is not having any treatment he can focus on antioxidants. Whole foods also sells "Mangosteen" Juice (not related to the mango) and that is very high in antioxidants.
Good luck with it.

Hi Mariasfriend-
My dad is 79 years old and has been diagnosed with "large cell" LC. He has a 6 cm tumor in L lung and 2 cm in RT. As I mentioned before he refused tx and was given months to live. He has a medical background and is UTD on medication studies and current data. A friend of mine who is a holistic/conventional doc in Ann Arbor MI suggested he take 2 supplements. Green tea extract, and broccoli seed extract. Once he read the data he decidid it couldn't hurt. He has read the China Study at my request, but has not really changed anything else. He did quit his 60 year 2 ppd cig habbit. He currently on no medications and doesn't need O2. His only symptom is some minimal shortness of breath upon exertion (like sawing down trees, roto tilling the garden etc.) His 1 year survival date is 11/12.

Hi scared one, how much of the green tea extract is your dad taking a day?. I am taking 2-1000 mg capsules a day and have since I found out I had the cancer. I am wondering if that is enough, I was also told by a friend who goes to Cancer treatment centers of America to take vitamin D-3, same amount. Who knows but I would like to know what the holistic doctor told him to take. Thank you mitzi Best wishes and God Bless

Hi Mitzi- The brand he takes provides 1000mg green tea and 500mg catechins/ployphenols. As far as Vitamin D goes...I take 2-4000/day depending on how many I decide to throw in my mouth. I live in the midwest where vitamin D insufficency is huge. You can ask your doc for a blood test to test your levels then you will know how much you need. D-3 has some pretty compelling studies behind it.

Mitzi- you can check out his website and C.V. at www.drlinkner.com Type this in the browser. Sometimes when you click the link you end up at a different site.

I drink green and white tea, but not enough and the studies suggest extracts to get enough of the ECCG. I get my green tea from lef.org.

Scared1, I live in Florida and I have had surgery and chemo, sounds like your dad at 79 probably feels better than I do I am 76.
The chemo knocked the daylights out of me and its been a year since the surgery, I am really worthless, not short of breath or anything but all kinds of other things.
I think he probably made the right choice and yes, they say almost all people with cancer have a deficiency of D-3, I also, take 1000mg of vitamin-C, 1- 200mg selenium,
1 super Vitamin B complex. 375 folic acid, 2500 mcg of B-12 sublingual tablets that go right into your blood stream from under your tongue....I gained weight from quitting smoking but have gotten really stiff feeling under my ribs, that feels like fluid. It was only about 10 lbs so can't understand this feeling. I am glad your dad chose the route he did. I did not want the chemo, and it was terribly hard....but I was not given any prognosis and had to wing it.
Feel like something is back even with the chemo but now have to wait at least until Monday for ct results.
May God be with your dad and cure him with natural meds, it sure would be wonderful and I wish he and you and the family all the best in the world. I thank you for taking the time to give me the info. mitzi

Hi,

My friend who is a huge iced tea drinker was diagnosed with stage 1 ovarian cancer and had her first chemo treatment a week from this past Fri. She was told not to drink tea as it was such an anti oxidant that it fought against the Chemo. She can have one glass or a cup a day, give or take and she hates water. I am begging her to drink water. Has anyone been told this about tea and Chemo? Also.....I really want to buy her a hat, scarf, etc but really want something cool like peace signs or something, does anyone know of some sites I can go on? Thanks, Kathy

Oh yes! Good point. Be careful of antioxidants while undergoing treatment ....

Lisa, it's the synthetic form of beta carotene that's the worry. Not the natural form from foods. Carrots, sweet potatoes, etc. are fine, just not the supplements for current or former smokers.

Thank u all for your good advises
God bless u

I take a mega strength extract of Green Tea and have been for 9 years, since my diagnosis.
