Dads stint!

0 Recommendations

Dad Is have his stint put in tomorrow!! Today he doesnt feel well. They prescribed him oxicotten Yesterday for his pain it seems to be getting worse. The new Onc doc told him they can not stop the cancer just control it with the chemo. Ever since then he has been kinda down and mean. But I just let the meanness slide, I am worried he is going to quit fighting since he thinks it cant be stopped. What can I do but reasure him that I believe he still has a fighting chance and to not give up?

Tell him you love him every chance you get! Stand by him let him know he can beat this, mind over matter! My dadf has cancer on the pelvic region and a lesion on the brain that they think started from his lungs! We get the biopsy results tomorrow to know the stage and type. I am fearful they will give him statistics and it will seem all to grim to my father and he will give up the fight! stand by your dad and let him know you will never give up hope! My thoughts and prayers to you and your family!

When I was dx someone gave me a small magnet that says:

NEVER
NEVER
NEVER
GIVE
UP!

I look at it everyday and remind myself. Someone also told me don't even look at the statistics because every case is different. And you know what, it is true.

i know all to well on how you feel. My mom has completely lost home. Makes comments about death and ever since she lost hope she has been so mean and has me in tears many many times a day but I never go to bed with out kissing her and telling her I love her no matter how mean she is. I'll fight this thing as much as I need and drag her kicking and screaming. She just doesnt realize that there is hope. People are beating this. theres one guy i found online that was told he had 6 mo to live and died 20 yrs later from heart failure, was cancer free in death. Its our job to lite the fire under them. We'll do it together

Maybe you can aproach him in a different way. I am a survivor for 6 years now and the doctors told me in Feb, 2005 I had 12 months or so to live and here it is July, 2008. I think I beat the 13 months. I beat it by fighting and the strength of the Lord.

I am still dealing with chemo, but I am alive. If you try telling him that the stats aren't always right and that's what the doctor is using for his guideline then maybe you can give him some hope. There is the Lord too.

Good luck I hope you dad does better.

Fondly,
Linda

When I went with my dad to his regular MD appt a few weeks ago, his doc let the word "incurable" slip out. He told Dad he was in for a real battle with this SCLC. When he mentioned the word incurable, it looked like someone had punched Dad in the stomach. He then went on to tell him its like a host of other diseases, like rheumotoid arthritis...........it can't be cured but controlled til they find "the cure". When we got in the car, he told me he was gonna beat it, lol. He absolutely never gives up, and I told him my money was on him. Just keep encouraging your Dad. If they can believe they can beat it, who are we to listen to anyone who says they can't? My dad's onc dr told us, the mind battle is half the fight, and he told me, "Your dad has won that battle".
Praying for you and your Dad.

Mary,
His surgery went good.. On Friday he had to go back to the hospital because it was bleeding alot. They had to remove the needle to let it heal completely. So they are doing the chemo tomorrow just in a iv then send him hope with the hep lock so they won't have to keep sticking him. He is swollen again and in alot of pain again the oxycotten is not working hee believes its from not getting the second round when he was suppose too. But he is in goos spirits right now!! So everyones prayers are working thank you so much.
