Dad decided on Taxotere instead of Tarceva

1 Recommendation

Hi everyone. Today the oncologist shared the side effects of both drugs and basically it seems like it's a crapshoot as far as side effects go. My dad suffers from a horrible rash and the Tarceva just didn't seem to make sense. He is so uncomfortable with his rash that he has been treated for (past four years) that the thought of a rash on top of a rash was just too much. This is my dad's third line of treatment. He was first on Avastin, which did nothing to improve his cancer, then ont Alimta which had him stable to partial remission for almost six months, and now after the scan it shows more mets to bone bout none in major organs which is a blessing.
What can my dad expect with the Taxotere as common side effects. He did so well tolerating both of the other drugs and I'm worried about the fluid retention around the heart and lungs that this can cause. How do they treat it. I just don't know if we made the right choice choosing Taxotere instead of Tarceva. He won't start for two weeks as my nephew is getting married this Sunday, my dad's first grandchild to marry and we want him feeling well for it. Any thoughts on our decision would be helpful and very much appreciated.
Blessings to all.

Don tolerated Taxotere pretty well. He was also on Carboplatin and Avastin at the time so was hard to distinguish exactly.

I think he made the better choice. I was on both at different times and I did not like the tarceva. The taxotere I lost some of my hair and there was fatigue, but it's much more tolerable than tarceva.

GOD BLESS,
LINDA

Cynthia,

You mentioned your dad is already affected by the rash. Have you tried clobetasol propionate cream USP 0.05%. It works very well for me. It is usually prescribed for eczema.

God Bless

Thank You and I will pass on the information about the cream.
Blessings,
Cynthia
