Correlation between lung cancer and appendicitis?

0 Recommendations

My 83 year old mother had a lobectomy in late June to remove a stage 1B (?) 3 cm mass from her upper left lobe. It was a haul..and she needed to be rehospitalized..for an additional week after her first discharge...but has done terrifically well since ...and has resumed almost all of her activities.
Last week..out of the blue....she had stomach pain and was advised to go the ER where it was determined she had appendicitis...(and had surgery to remove it). Does anyone know of any relationship between these organs...or????? The pathology report on the appendix showed no cancer.

My mother is due for a f/u PET SCAN in 2 weeks for the lung cancer. No chemo was recommended....and I dread hearing that cancer may still be lurking.
The doctors tell her they've got it all......but I am suspicious that this is more likely their hope rather than the reality.
Chemo would probably be too much...for her....and I'm not sure it would have been a realistic thing to push for?
How have other folks done without chemo? Any octogenarians have similar experiences? Has anyone ever heard of the appendix connection or is it just a 'fluke'?
Thank you all so much for your continued support and advice!!

Hi Casey2,

I've had lung cancer and been researching it for 2 years now and I've never heard of any correlation between the two.

Good luck on the PET and if they decide to put her on chemo, you might want to consider tarceva since it is a pill and does not have the same side effects as regular chemo. It is less harsh to deal with and at her age she may fair better. I do hope she doesn't have to have any. That would be great.

Let us know how you make out.

God Bless

Thanks Chessie-too...

How are you doing in your 'recovery'? Did you try Tarceva? God Bless you too...and prayers for continued good health.
