Chemo treatment

0 Recommendations

My normal day to have chemo is on tuesdays. However, I was told I wouldn't be having chemo yesterday because my white blood cells were to low - I had to have a blood transfusion last wednesday because my red blood cells were to low. Instead of the chemo I got a shot and will get another one today and possibly thursday. My question is this: the oncologist nurse said they were adding avastin to the mix(I get cisplatin with alimta every 3rd wk). Is this normal after 7 weeks of chemo to add something even though I haven't had a ct? I will find out more today but wondered if anyone out there can give me a heads up as to why the addition of this drug. Thank you all for your help and blessings to all. Dorothy

It's probably for the blood count - I used to get shots every week before my chemo treatments - that is when they let me have the chemo. I had Nuprigin (sp?) shots - you do what you have to - the Oncology nurses are VERY well trained - they know what they are doing - and they don't do anything without the written and verbal consent of your Oncologist. You'll be ok .......praying for you
