Character on soap opera diagnosed with lung cancer

On the soap opera Days of our Lives one of the main characters, Kate, was diagnosed with lung cancer on todays show. I've never heard of a character on a soap diagnosed with lung cancer. Breast cancer yes, prostate cancer yes but never lung cancer. It will be interesting to see how they show her battle the disease.

I don't watch soaps - but I just set my TIVO to tape "Days" all of next week. I hope their Neilson ratings (sp???) go up while they play it out. Maybe if the networks see it as a hot topic, they will write it into more shows = more attention = more funding = more research = A CURE!!!

I hope lots of us will tune in.

Let's keep our finger crossed.

Haha, or fingers.

I am so glad! Kate is also NOT A SMOKER. Possibly this can bring awareness to the forefront!

Now...let's hope they do an accurate job of portraying this experience so that awareness is heightened and people are not just frightened by the treatment.

That is interesting. My fiance will DVR that for sure!!!

Several months ago the star that plays Alexus Davis an Attorney went thru Lung cancer on the show...lost hair, etc. This is General Hospital.

Sad, but true...I've been watching Days since I was 11 (that's 26 years!) As soon as Kate had a cough I knew this is what would be her diagnoses. I have mixed feelings about it.
On one hand, I excited about the awareness.
On the other hand, I'm afraid they will screw it up. I will be constantly comparing, judging, etc... I would hate it if they "pretend" to treat it in a way that's not possible or very dramatized. I hope they did their research and keep it as real as possible. I also hope they drag it out a long time...more awareness.

On General Hospital - Alexis did a great job portraying the symptoms - sort of. She had pretty severe symptoms, but was staged a 2. Her reactions to chemo were right on, but they dropped the story line and it really isn't mentioned any more. I wonder how Days will handle it.

Yes - General Hospital has has Lung Cancer and Breast Cancer and one other that I can't remember - but they are always at the forefront of these matters - good for Daytime!!!

I've been watching day's for a long time off and on....Is this for real that Kate has LC or is she just going to portray the part...I sure hope the later

Wow..interesting. I used to watch DAYS for YEARS! I haven't in about 5 yrs. I will have to start again!! I know who kate is..married to john, was married to Victor? It will definitely be interesting as to how realistic her symptoms/treatments, etc will be!

I don't watch soaps, but looks like I'll have to make an exception. I too am curious how they will handle it.

With hope,

So, have you all been watching this? I'm disappointed. They did say it was metastatic when they first gave her the results. Not a tear was shed...a bit of mention by her sons of seeing how dismal the prognosis was after reseaching on the internet...but that's about it. Then she went into the hospital, for what was a week or so, had some intense treatment that lasted that long, almost died, and is now walking out happy as a clam. Of course, after the first treatment, she immediately had a scan and had made good progress on the disease.

I'm worried this may do more harm than good. It takes a month to get someone off a ledge on Days of Our Lives, but a few weeks to make a big dent in Stage IV lung cancer...

What have you all noticed? I wish I hadn't been so naive by expecting too much.

I haven't watched it, but use to watch it everyday when I was a stay at home Mom. I'll say like you said.....takes weeks for them to drag out a simple story line, but this will be over before it began. Some doctor will ride in on a white horse and save her and they will all live happily ever after, lol. Time will tell.....like sands through the hourglass........hehehe.
