Changes that you have requested are on the way

Hello everyone. We've been hard at work on many of the great suggestions that you've sent us. This week we've been cooking up some changes to the group home page, and hope to make them public very soon. The changes will make the home page more of a dashboard - something closer to the feel of the old group home page. Specifically:

- We're adding back a running list of new members. (It will only be visible to those who are signed in, though, to protect your privacy.)
- We're expanding the list of posts displayed from 5 to 20.
- We're converting the list of new posts to an "active" list. That is, it will show not only new posts but also posts with new replies. This will makes it like the list of new comments that was on the old site's home page. So if you were to sit on the new group home page and refresh it all day, you'd see every single new post, and every post with new replies, pop right to the top of that list. You wouldn't miss a thing. And if you are away for a while, you can always get a list of everything that's new, or has new replies, here:

http://www.inspire.com/groups/lung-cancer-alliance-survivors/new/active/

- We're adding direct links to the discussion topics, so you can jump right to the discussions that you most want to read.
- We're moving the posts to the left column, since that makes for easier reading.
- And finally, anywhere on the site that we give you a list of posts, we're increasing the number of items per page from 10 to 20. Earlier this week we expanded the list of replies per page from 10 to 20, also.

We hope these changes make the home page much more useful for you.

As we're making these changes, you may see the welcome text on the home page change temporarily. Please know that we'll be restoring it soon after - it's nothing more than a temporary change as we shuffle bits of pages around. Thanks for your patience.

I have just noticed that the new site does not allow one to edit one's post. I think that the old site use to have an edit feature that allowed editing after posting.

Eric

Eric -

You can edit any of your journal entries and discussions. You'll find an "edit" link next to your photo, at the top of the post. Replies are not editable, which is the same as the old site. You can delete your own replies, though.

Hi Walter-

Thanks for the head's up. That really makes a difference in knowing that changes are coming down the pike, as opposed to signing in and finding your support world totally changed and feeling like you landed on a different planet.(Ha!)

I hope that your being able to condense the list, includes a smaller font and not including the first 4 lines of every post, which just takes up space, and in my humble opinion doesn't add much except that it takes up space...we'll look at the posts whether those 4 lines are there or not. I believe that many times, we make that judgment (to click on it), based on the title or the member). This should also make it unnecessary to scroll left to right.

While we're at it, when we would click on our name to go to our profile we would get not only the list of discussion's we started, but also those we had replied to. I thought I read that you guys were bringing that back. That's important, because it also allowed us to follow discussions we are were involved in. Are you still working on that?

I had always preferred the way this site was organized compared to other sites. It made it easier to have real discussions with people. I really think the organization is still there, it's just that the font is huge and the 1st 4 lines take up so much room.

I know change is harder for some than for others. I'd be liar if I said I wasn't upset a couple of Saturday's ago. I had to walk away and put it into perspective, come back and try to navigate my way around. I did, and that's when I realized other than those things mentioned above, the site was essentially the same.

Thanks for all you do,

Wendy

PS. I am still not getting my daily email. I do use yahoo, checked my bulk(spam) mail, it's not in there and I also check my settings for daily activity, and that looks ok too. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello Wendy.

The list of discussions and journal entries that you have replied to is something we'll be adding soon. That's on our short list of things to do.

We'll do some poking around to see if we can figure out where your daily e-mails are going, too.

Thanks!

Walter

HAVE WE TOLD YOU .. YOU ARE DOING AN AWESOME JOB..
THANK-YOU,

THANKS AGAIN, LISA

Thanks for helping us manage this new format. One thing missing is that when I go to my profile, it does not show the discussions that I am participating in (only the ones I started). Can we get our discussion lists back on our own profile? Thank you, and thank you for listening to our opinions to make this the site for us.
Susan L

Thank you, Lisa!

Susan L - A list of the discussions that you're participating in is at the top of our things-to-do list. We hope to have that added to the profiles very soon.
