Hi! anyone is taking beta glucan supplement?
my dad has been taking "immune health basics" nutritional supplement for two months, I was told it is very good for cancer treatment. this one is from biothera. I want to get more information from people who have tried this supplement.
I have my father mixing "Quorn" meat substitute products with his regular meat. Quorn is fairly high in beta glucens because it's derived from a certain mushroom like fungus. Epicor is also a yeast derived product that contains beta glucens and is about $20 for 3 months supply. I think the key is to understand where beta glucens come from as a precaution so that you don't spend too much on a supplement. I would also do a search on the internet for foods that contain beta glucens because at the end of the day certain phytonutrients are available in ordinary foods and such. Beta glucens are a type of dietary fiber and are also in rice bran for instance. My dad uses rice bran oil in his cooking which is a healthier way to cook too.

"Beta glucan needs to be highly purified in order to be effective, the outer layers of the yeast cell need to be removed to expose the beta glucan , so that it can bind to the receptor sites of the innate immune cells. the purification process should also remove mannoproteins and yeast residues."
most inexpensive beta glucan sold in the market are not going through this process, so it is equal to take powder placebo. I bought immune health basics after I did beta glucan study for months, my dad has been taking it for two months, now all my family members are taking it on daily basis to prevent the cancer.
Hi Po, the key is to research whatever beta glucen product the person is taking. I try not to be taken in by pitches on products however scientific or clever they may be. Once I looked into the actual clinical studies on Epicor along with the results, looked at the company and how the product is produced, I felt the product was worth it. In fact their PR person that I contacted said they would not throw me a pitch on how their product could be better than others because it borders on claiming that their product can do things that only FDA approved drugs are allowed to promote. I do know that their product meets all GMP guidelines. But again I fell back on their clinical studies and scientific peer journal reviews.
