Being positive.

This time last year Sue, my wife, was told she may have three months to live after discovering she had NSCLC after finding adenocarcinoma cells in a pleural effusion.
She had a pleuardesis in December and then four cycles of Cisplatin and Gemzar. Since then she has been clear of fluid and living a real full life, having been skiing and on a sailing holiday.
I am sure the chemo had a lot to do with this but also believe so strongly that it is her positive mental attitude that has shone through so much. When the Oncologist told her that he didn't know anyone who has survived this, she told him, 'I will be your first then'... She is truly a remarkable lady.
I found this article today which I think underlines what I am talking about http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8326171.stm
I hope this helps people who have been diagnosed because there is hope there and being positive really does help.

Thank you for the link. I agree, the power of positive thinking can perform miracles.

Thank you for this post....staying positive...surrounding yourself with people who support you and a doctor who EXPECTS you to be a survivor is the attitude that bring results.
Good for Sue...good that she knows that she is a survivor.
Keep the faith

Great Post, Great article as well. I am a true believer of positive thinking.

Of course the C word will scare the heck out of you, but if you truly want to have a go at the beast, you have to arm yourself with thinking positive and make sure your immune system is up for the fight.

I do take Immune Support Capsules, eat a balanced diet, and am not on any anti depressants. My drug of choice is YOUTUBE :)

Thanks for the great post.

Love to all,
Marylou

This is wonderful to hear how she survived it, and beat the odds. I have also. But I am not so strong to go out and ski and do some of those wonderful things. I might be a little better if I get myself in good shape. i use oxygen now, so this does not help much. Good luck thanks for sharing, it will give hope to many people.

Thank you for sharing that link and your wife's great story. It gives me such hope for my Mom. Even though I'm scared most of the time for her health, the day she started chemo, she stated "This is the first day of the end of my disease." She was actually looking forward to starting treatment. She has a good attitude most of the time -- I'm the one having mental meltdowns every few days. ;-)

Thanks again and best wishes to you and your wife!
Cris.

Thank you for posting, both about your wife's triumph and the link to the article. Having a positive attitude , although not always easy, is a proactive choice. When you are in a situation that feels out of your control, sometimes all you can do is choose how to respond and I think a positive attitude is immensely helpful. Even if it didn't effect our immune system (and I believe it does) it certainly influences our quality of life. Cancer may cause harm to our physical being, but it doesn't need to break our spirits. I like your wife's attitude. Linnea
