Yesterday was a really bad day, or so I thought. It ended with a smile on my face tho. I work for city government and our asst. fire chief who passed away from lung cancer was buried yesterday. I did not know the man personally but I've been following his care page since way before I was diagnosed so his passing was really a needle in the balloon. I open the paper and headline is Asst Fire Chief Succumbs to Cancer. Almost to the end of the article they mention lung cancer. That said, we have hurricane IKE coming our way. I work for Public Works and have always been "essential personnel" who work the storm. I was told I did not need to come in. It was like a slap in the face, too old and frail to work the storm, let the younger girls work it. I've been there the longest and have worked more storms than they have been thru in the lives.
So after fighting the traffic from all the evacuees I get home in the evening. 2 hours later my daughter gets home. She had to pick up her son from his dad's because they got evacuated. A 2 hr drive turned into a 10 hr drive. Her AC went out in her car. It's HOT here in Texas. Whole left side of her was sunbruned from driving with windows down. About 30 miles from home a trucker was trying to get her attention. She was driving on her rim. I said You couldn't tell you were driving on your rim??? She said not at 1 MPH. Of course she was in the far left lane. The trucker then a state trooper tried to help her to the shoulder - It took an hour just to get over 4 lanes. By this time she's about to have a break down crying etc. The trucker changed her tire then went on his way. The trooper said there is a Discount Tire about 5 miles up the road, they have a tire waiting on you. THE TRUCKER PAID FOR THE TIRE!!!
Thank you Pepsi driver!!! Even tho it was not me out there, I will not forget that act of kindness!

Julie,

That is a great example of a random act of kindness! I will send positive and happy and grateful thoughts to that Pepsi driver! I love hearing stories like yours - it restores my (sometimes shaken) belief in the goodness of people!

Oh, wow. That totally touched my heart. Way to go, Pepsi driver!!! What an awesome person he is. :)

Thank you so much for sharing that story and showing us that people DO still care in this day and age. :)

Stay safe. We were in Houston yesterday and I have to say I'm glad we got out! It looks like it's going to be a wicked storm!

Hugs!

Sorry MDA had to close. Think I'll send that to Dear Abbey for her "random act of kindness" letters. I think I got all the projectiles out of my yard so I'm gonna take a shower while we have water, then become a couch potato until the storm comes in.
Good luck on your scan results. Crossing my toes!

Awww Julie - that's a good story - I like to "pay it forward" too - I've done stuff like that on occasion - makes one feel really good -

Julie,
I, too, loved your story and I'm pleased that you took the time to share it with everyone.
Although the media stresses all the evil in the world, I believe there is a lot more goodness. I actually worked with a girl who gave a kidney to the husband of our colleague....she didn't even know the husband. But, he was going to die, and she told the wife, I'll give your husband a kidney if I'm a match, and she was. There is tremendous goodness in this world. I think most people want to be good.
