Anyone have Taxol chemo for sclc or nsclc?

0 Recommendations

My Doctor has suggested that I begin Taxol treatments before T-giving. One treatment per week, for 1 hour. I have a recurrence of sclc or nsclc (no biopsy this time) in exact same place in lung. Had concurrent treatments of Radiation and Chemo the first go round and was cancer free for 2 1/2 yrs. The cancer has not met'd anywhere. My Onc said this time I won't lose my hair and I should tolerate pretty well. Now I read Taxol has sudden hair loss of all hair and causes severe nausea. Anyone done this stuff?

Cancer Taxol Chemotherapy Carboplatin

I have done taxol, carboplatin but in a harsh dosage every three weeks, I believe the weekly is not nearly as strong and I had the combination that took 3 to 4 hours. I was very, very sick but I am older and it does affect older persons sometimes more. I am one who is allergic to so many antibiotics and how my body withstood all they gave me, I do not know but I did not tolerate it well. I lost my hair after my first dosage but everyone is different as to how they react to all of this. I know nothing about the weekly dose as I never had that so therefore I cannot advise you. I just wish the best to you and that it is well tolerated by you. God Bless you and Hugs Mitziger.

Hello,
My father has exsclc. He has been on chemo since may. The first 4 rounds of chemo only shrunk the tumor about 20%. They put him on taxol and we just got the results friday! everything shrunk significantly! In his lymph nodes, liver and lung! He does not have it in the bone or brain....Taxol is a strong one and my dad was wiped out for a week to 10 days straight! but it was worth it! we couldnt be happier! hope this helps!

Thank you all for your posts. Really glad to hear your Dad is doing well Dawne and thanks to you Mitziger. The first time I had Chemo it was the 7 hr day thing of cysplatin and then the next 3 days was etoposide. (Even sounds like an insecticide doesnt it?) Having that at the same time as Radiation wiped me out - that's for sure and I didnt have as much as an eyelash left. Mine has not gone anywhere else as yet in 2 1/2 yrs - came back in the exact same spot in my left lobe.

Hi,

I too have extended sclc and am on taxol and carbo. I have had 2 rounds. My rounds are stronger than yours. I go once a month for almost 4 hours. Yes I did loose my hair after the first round. I have had "some" nausea but not enough yet to really complain. Had one day last month 2 days after chemo that I did vomit but it was quick and nothing happened again. The good news is the spots are shrinking and I am thrilled.

I was started out in Taxol once week and did well for about 4 weeks then it went downhill. My ONC changed me to Cisplatin/gemsar for the remaining 5 months of treatment. That was over 4 years ago and it didn't come back. I am 99% sure Taxol caused my hearing loss and Neuopathy as well. If you get symtoms be sure to tell them right away, I didn't and i have still got some hearing loss and the neuropathy never went away. These drugs react so differenty from person to person I don't think any are better than others. Staying on top of side effects is key!! Never just let it slide like I did. My ONC said he would have switched my chemo immediately if he had known. I was trying to be strong instead it turns out I was really being "not to smart"lol I lost my hair in week 4 but it dried out and looked awful after 2 weeks.

My very best to you.

I had only one dose of Taxol and had an allergic reaction to either this or the carbo I was on at the same time, or maybe it could even have been the filler in the IV fluid to mix the drugs in. not sure. But... I went on gemzar after, I have nerve damage in my back and legs, and I call it neuropathy, my oncology nurse tells me this is not a usual place for a neuropathy, but I disagree. I never had this pins and needles and numbness before chemotherapy so I am sure it is from that. I have many side effects not sure which drug caused them. Hair loss yes on carbo taxol as well. Gemzar they told me no hair loss from that. I already had shaved my head!
God bless Sandy

I did have Taxol for Chemo----but---that was 12 yrs. ago!!!!
I had no problem at all with it, but I did lose my hair. We even went on an Alaskan cruise during my Chemo. My Chemo was once a month for 6 hrs. but like I said, it gave me no problems. And I`m still here 12 1/2 yrs. later.
I send my thoughts and prayers to you for a good recovery!
Marlene
