I just a few minutes ago got a call from my doctor. She was calling to tell me that the results of my fecal occult test was positive. Now I am going to be scheduled for more test. My scans have been clean since my surgery. My question is this: Has anyone ever heard of lung cancer or lung cancer mets showing up in the colon. My doctor said that nothing can be conclusive until I have further tests, but I am so scared. I am not even at home. I am out of town visitng with my daughter for Mother's Day and I won't be back home until next week.I just a few minutes ago got a call from my doctor. I'm sorry you are going through another nail-biting experience. I'm only accustomed to good news from you because your scans have been clean for so long.
I can't remember anyone on the board reporting a colon met from lung cancer. I guess it can happen, but I think it's far more common for colon cancer to metastasize to the lung.
I assume the fecal occult "postive" reading just means positve for blood? As I'm sure you know, there are many reasons - unrelated to cancer - for blood in the stool.
Did you have the test done for a particular reason or was it just vigilance on the part of you and your Doctor?
Try not to be scared Carol. Try to enjoy Mother's Day and visiting with your daughter. I know that's easier said than done, but most likely this will turn out to be nothing serious.
As always, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong, old friend and send me a p.m. if you want to talk. I think everything is going to be fine.

Thank you for your reply and concern Lee. My test was a routine check-up by my primary care doctor. I will let you know what happens as I have follow-up tests completed.
Carol

I agree--try not to worry--there are MANY other reasons that can show a little blood in your stool. Have you had any symptoms? Take care!

Mary

Enjoy your visit with your daughter. DON'T WORRY. It could be hemorrhoids or diverticulitis or one of many other things that are NOT cancer. Think positively!!!

Carol don't worry about it! It is what it is and just know you've caught it early no matter what. Even so you can't change anything now. I'm going through similar situation for blood in my urine and they don't know anything yet. I had a colonoscopy last week and they found some pre cancerous polyps but hey their before thank God for that. Another test for two years out but for today, I feel great so I'm making the most of everyday and what comes down will with out me going crazy. Hang in there. It probably nothing.- John

So many before me have said what I intended to tell you that there are many other things that can cause bleeding and if you cannot see it (occult) then it generally is from farther up. I have had many problems with it and it was not cancer at all. Even an ulcer can cause it and many, many other causes. Put it in God's hands, he will take care of it. Enjoy your visit and put it in the back of your mind, live today and every day to the fullest. No one knows what will happen tomorrow and that is probably a good thing. God Bless, prayers that there is nothing serious. Mitzi

John, kidney stones will cause blood in urine...of course you know that.
Carol, hang in there hun, lots of reasons for blood in the fecal. Like John says though...it is what it is and that doesnt mean its cancer. I'll pray for both u and john...but also, carol..please do try not to let it ruin your mothers day. Enjoy your time with your kids and leave the worrying for another day. Please keep us updated.
GOD BLESS
robin

What they said.

Hemorrhoids, ulcers, overdoing the ibuprofin -- bleeding problems. Avastin.

This is what additional tests are for, to find out. Sure, it could be mets, but that's honestly the least likely scenario. Do you have black tarry stools? Answer is the same actually.

The wait and see game is horrible isn't it? Try to put it out of your mind for the weekend.

Hi Carol,
I have followed your posts and was always so happy to see how well you were doing.....havent seen anything on your current issues......have you gotten any further news or updates on the fecal occult test?

Hoping for good news.

janet

Thank you for asking Janet. I am scheduled for a fluoroscopy and asigmoidoscopy. The test have to be done at least a week of each other. My first available appointment is June 9th. I am trying to be positive about it all as I have learned that there are more reasons for my results besides cancer.
I will certainly update with more information as soon as I know more.
Carol

Carol,
Well, glad the tests etc are scheduled. Yes, there always are more reasons than cancer, but unfortunately thats the first place we all go.

Sorry you wait so long for the test, but we will look forward to your update and likely good news.

best,
janet
