9mm spot -- PET tomorow (scared)

0 Recommendations

I read some of the posts here.

I had an x-ray (because of cough) in Jan of this year. Another x-ray in April showed a spot (that x-ray was because of pain uner arms + doc felt movable lump under left arm). CT shows lung spot to be 9mm (I THINK doc said that size).

I thought to myself -- 9mm, that;s tiny! But just now I looked it up -- that 1/3 on an INCH!!

To me, that is a pretty dramatic increase -- from zero (1/09 x-ray) to 9mm in 4 months!

I'm hoping it's all just an infection.

How worried should I be?

If it IS an infection (docs keep telling me that is probably what it is most likely ("99 times out of 100"). But they (suspiciously?) never seem to tell me what the treatment would be if it WAS an infection.

As everyone is, I'm just looking for some truth + guidance here.

Anyone?

Thanks!

PS: what makes it even more confusing (+ fear-inducing) is, the lung doc looked at the xrays (BOTH 1/09 + 4/09) and said he didn't see anthing on either one! But, my primary doc DID see something on the 4/09 one, which is why he sent me to the lung doc in the first place! The underarm thing is still somewhat painful -- just annoying, but worrisome. The CT was done a few days ago w/contrast. The lung doc DOES see the spot on that -- but doesn't see anything at the underarms. What worries me is, if he thought both x-rays looked the same to him (clear), and the CT DOES show the 9mm spot, how can I be sure he's reading the underarm part of the CT correctly (either)? I hope that all makes sense.

Anyhow, wish me luck on the PET.

PPS: I'm 49.

Hi

There are SO many things it could be and I would tell you not to worry except, I know we ALL worry about PET scans and envision the absolute worst. Know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Do your best to calm down . It is probably nothing serious and you will have wasted all that good energy for nothing: ) Let us know how you do.

Hugs'
Sandy

Thanks. I will.

Sandys right, but I would get a second opinion, 9mm isn't really large, but the cough and pain under your arm needs to be addressed, you have lymph nodes there, so if you have a lump it could be anything, but you need to know. You have a very good primiary dr.

I am 49 and a nodule was found on my right lung during a CT scan for something else a couple of years ago. My nodule was 12MM. Doctors monitored it for almost a year with CT scans but last august I decided to remove it even though it had not grown. All my other tests had been negative incl PET scan so my advice is to be very agressive. I did not have any symptoms. See what the PET scan results are first but if there is any uptake GET the nodule out ASAP. If it is cancer, your chances of a cure are much better if it is early stage. I would be happy to talk to you via email or phone if you need some moral support. email: martaunker@yahoo.com. Phone 203-254-3442

Welp -- did the PET -- I had a very restful SNOOZE in the lead-lined room (70 mins), then I also slept through the PET itself. Sleep-wise, I feel better than usual! Now, to wait for the results.

Thanks for the encouragement from all!

I'll keep you posted. I have my fingers crossed.

Sending you good thoughts and prayers for now. Hope it's nothing. Please keep us posted.
Much Love,
Marylou

I have had a sore throat for a few weeks now and will be seeing an ENT doctor tomorrow. I had a bad cold a few weeks ago and it could be from that... or from acid coming up but I am concerned so I am seeing a doctor tomorrow. I am in remission and worry it could be connected....can't take any chances. Will be taking a PETCT in June. Its so good to have this website to give support and share.

Good luck and God Bless to everybody!!

I can't add anything to what others have said (though I will echo a strong belief in getting a second and third opinion), but just want you to know you're in my heart and prayers.
And, Phyl, I wholly agree that this site and the LCA are true blessings!
With love and always hope,
Lori
