I have read that %50 of all nodules less than 1c m are not cancer. I imaginge that the percentage is even greater for not cancer if it is 5 mm. you don't have to worry unless the nodule increases in size and or shape over time. Many people have been watching nodules for years and they don't change. I have some that never change. they have been the same since 2003.

I am beside myself... after all we have been through... chemo- cancer -surgery and now something else.. God Bless you for your input I really appreciate your reply.. it gives me hope once again...

May god Bless you, me and everyone else who carries the burden of this godsaken Cancer..

Happy happy Holidays :-)

Lisa

After my upper right lobectomy, the surgeon mentioned - for the first time (at the six-week follow up) that there were several nodules (about 7mm) in the left lung that they were following. They had not mentioned these before and the nodules had not "lit up" with the PET. Guess if they had they would have staged me IV rather than I. In any case, they have followed these for three years - no change - no problem. I had heard the statistic was 27%.

Hi Lisa,
Looks like we are in the same boat-I am waiting for my next scan in mid-Jan. to see what this nodule is doing. The waiting is hard. Some days I think I should run & get a scan-PRONTO- But my insurance will only cover every 3 months. And docs. say it probably won't change too much before 3 months. It is disheartening to go through chemo/surg/rad. only to start the worry all over again....I guess this is what "Living With Cancer" is. Best Wishes to you. BetsyT.

Thank-you Chum for your reply, I once again have hope... Bless You today and always..
I just know that with this we need to be strong and have faith..

Happy Holidays..

always,

LISA

Yes isn't that the truth, anyway be strong and I am sure like Don and ZCHum they won't be nothing, we need to quit waiting and worring and to get on with our lives.. I know it is easy for me to say but thats what I have been told and I am trying to do so..

God Bless you and Have A Happy Happy Holiday.. everything will be fine...

keep in touch..

xoxo

Lisa,

October of this year I had my my first PET after surgery. A nonhypermetabolic 6mm nodule appeared which was not reflected in the PET of July of this year prior to my surgery. I had a CT in mid November as the result of the 6mm nodule showing up and the results were that their was no change to the 6mm nodule which is a postivie thing thus far. I am anxious on what my next PET of January 7, 2008 will reflect.

Do you know if your nodule was hypermetabolic or nonhypermetabolic? It is my understanding that a nonhypermetabolic nodule is much more positive than the other according to my alternative and oncologist doctors. I can honestly say that having lung cancer ismuch harder to deal with than the prostate cancer. Having Lung cancer is like being on a daily roller coaster ride with all the emotional and physical ups and downs.

1 PETER 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on God because he cares for you.

God Bless,

Frank

Lisa,
Many people have nodules and some continue to find new ones. Before my surgery, I presented with 8 nodules , only one being over a centimeter. My surgeon, Dr Park at Sloan Memorial said they were concerned only with the larger one as the others looked innocent. Had surgery to remove upper left lobe where the cancer was and the other nodules have remained over 2 yrs with no change. At this point, Dr isn't concerned about these nodules at all.
In my LC support group, when someone reports on a recent scan and says they have a nodule, the response is usually-- "You only have one?" So many of us have multiple nodules and most times they remain unchanged and of no consequence. They will watch them closely, and with no growth, they will become old news.
Good Luck and try not to worry.
Diane

The roller coaster of life yes that is what were on, and yes it's not in our hands .. but we are in this thing - together thanks so much for your reply.. I dont know what the metobolic means?? that it lit up or didn't mine didn't but it was so small they said they sometime don't...

God Bless You Frank keep in touch and pray every thing wil be ok..

I had an upper right lobectomy in July, 2005. On my first PET scan I had the tumor in my right lobe to light up also two lymph nodes. There was a nodule in my left lung that did not light up and the doctors did not even mention it. After treatment of 6 weeks of chemo and radiation I had another PET scan in preparation for my surgery. This time the nodule in my left lung DID light up on this scan. My surgeon insisted on me having a biopsy of the nodule before he would do surgery. I did have the biopsy and the nodule turned out to be scar tissue by the Grace of God. I had my surgery and have had clear scans since. Hope this helps.

Lisa,

Do you have copies of the PET and CT that reflected the .5 cm nodule? If so, does it read that it is a nonhypermetabolic or hypermetabolic nodule? If not, recommend that you give your doctor a call to see which kind it is. I am confident that it is a nonhypermetabolic nodule, if so this should help put your mind at ease. Are they going to do another CT scan in six weeks to see if the nodule has disappeared or remained the same?

The following scriptures are identified for dificult times:

Romans 5:3-4
We...rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Romans 8:18
Out present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us.

Psalm 33:20
We wait in hope for the Lord, he is our help and our shield.

No worries, God Bless,

Frank

Thank you for your input...

God Bless You and Happy Holidays and clear scans ahead...

Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Sorry to hear your going through all this worry...Although My tumor turned out to be begnin..I DO remember that fear!..I just wanted to share that I also have a 5mm nodule in my left lung that they are going to continue to watch, and also one on my liver..with mine they reffered to them as "Granuloma's" meaning a form of scare tissue possibly from an "old infection" ect..Mine have been stable for over a year, and neither showed any hypermedabolic uptake on PET scan..I have never had any symptoms from them..and was told they are harmless..
Try to keep the faith..and I will surely say a Prayer for you as well..
May GOd bless you,

Annette

Did you get a biobsy? and if so what type?? or are they just following it? is it cm or mm I dont know what is bigger or smaller... Gee I appreciate all your help, faith and prayers..

May God Bless You too Annette please let me know ok?

Lisa

Hi Lisa,
No they didnt biopsy it, they are just watching it with CT scans.....mm is smaller than cm...which is yours?..
The way I understood it was they dont biopsy nodules smaller than 8mm..I may be wrong but thats what I was told..Intionally the nodule in my Right lung was 6mm..and because of where it was and the shape being not uniform in size it could not be biopsied..so I opted to "wait it out" for the next CT which was a 3 month follow up..which at that time had tripled in size...to 1.9cm x 1.7cm...at that time they did a new procedure for the staging..being the EBUS and EUS..So I had no needle biopsies done with in the mass itself..they did do needle biopsies of the lymph nodes......in that they did a "brushing" of the mass..but they have never done any sort of biopsy with my left lung with the smaller nodule of 5mm..just said they would watch that, and it has been stable since sept of 2006..as well as the granuloma in my liver...
Hope this helps...
God bless,

Annette

Hi well mine is 0.5 cm so I dont know how many mm equals a cm?? geezz so many details
so what is EBUS and EUS? anyway I am so confused and up set its not even funny..

I called my pumologist and left him a message I guess I need to do the waiting game.. and pray for no growth,,

Thank you for your reply//

and God Bless you too...

Hello I found out there are 10 mm to 1 Cm so I guess 0.5 cm work be 5mm..anyway who knows..

LOL.. Geezz

Thanks again..
Lisa

Hi, Lisa, I've had two different types of "little artifacts" show up. The first one we "waited and watched" for several months, and it remained the same so we concluded that it's most likely scar tissue or something else. The next one was much bigger, showing up suddently, and so I used antibiotic to rule out a lung infection (infections also show up on PET & CT scans). In the fist instance, we scanned at 3-month intervals twice, then the larger spot showed up and we waited 4 months -- one month for the antibiotic to fully process, then 3 months for the debri to clear out. The next scan showed the first smaller artifact remaining stable, and the newer larger one gone. I learned that finding these spots is very common, and absent other indicators there is really nothing to do but check again after a time. And, I learned that "watchful waiting" is a form of treatment. So continue to live well, breathe lots and deeply, smile often, and show up for the next scan. My best wishes, SharonS

Sharon, Thank you for your input everything is greatly appreciated... and new knowledge.. I noticed you have used chineses herbs and have been in remission sine 03 ...HURRAY!!

I pray to be the same way.. can you tell me what you take?? I am on like miracle greens and reds and things but would love a list of the real deal...

Bless you and have a wonderful holiday season...

Lisa
