Dizzy/fainting spells, anyone?

0 Recommendations

Hi, I continue to have these periodic, out of nowhere dizzy spells. It feels like I'm going to faint so I lie down wherever I am until it goes away. It's scary and I can't find any behavior associated with it that I can modify. My doctor did suggest iron supplements, but I haven't bought any yet.

Anyone else experience this? What did you do?

I had them at the beginning of my pregnancy. Stay hydrated! Also, once the Dr discovered I was anemic and had me taking extra iron they went away.

Pixie! Aren't you being induced right now?

You're absolutely right, I forgot about the hydration thing, I've always been bad at that. I'm going to go get a glass of water now.

Are you waiting for pitocin?

I think I remember you ate having twins. They could be positioned to put pressure on your vena cava. I had it pretty badly and had to wear hose to improve circulation. I would try changing positions that could help too in addition to hydration and iron.
Good luck!

Yes, I forgot to mention it is twins, and I'm 20 weeks.

Hmm, hose in the summer, sounds hot. Thank you pokie, babies position is a good thought. Can I make them move by hopping on one foot or something? It would hurt (sciatica), but I'd try it...

I tend to have low blood pressure in the mornings, which can make me feel a little light headed. I drink a lot of fluid and typically feel better. Make sure you are eating enough, too.
Hope you feel better.

I am only 9 weeks but I have had a couple of dizzy spells - once when something grossed me out, and again after a walk in the heat. They passed quickly.

I'm 21 weeks and do have these dizzy spells periodically and it's been happening for a while. First thing I did was have my OB check my iron (blood test), which was fine. Now I pretty much know what brings it on: getting up too quickly, moving too quickly, not eating enough of the good stuff and/or hydration. Many early mornings I find having a glass of juice helps.
Hope everyone's suggestions help!

Thanks everyone, I'm so hydrated I can't stop peeing, and I promise to lay off the junk food in hopes it will keep me out of support hose. I'll start iron supplements too.

I read that can happen in my what to expect when expecting book, try to rest and drink a lot of fluids. Could you have a sugar issue, have you noticed if this happens when you are hungry?

I had this before pregnancy and now with my pregnancy do to low blood pressure. My OB says to make sure to stay hydrated and eat a lot of protein. Best of luck!

I am 12w with my second and with this one and my first, I experienced dizzy spells, and not only when I stood up. I have naturally low blood pressure and they constantly have to watch my iron (borderline anemic). I just try to drink a lot of water and get up very slowly. Once you start feeling dizzy, grab something and take a slow deep breath, this usually helps me at least not pass out by taking in big breaths of oxygen.

Talk to your OB about it, but I think its pretty normal, especially with us low iron gals.
