avent bottle questions

0 Recommendations

Hi, it's my first post since the babies were born. Our Avent bottles, which we never had a problem with are all leaking sometimes. Can you not mix and match "old" nipples and rings with "new" BPA-free bottles? The bottles themselves are easy to tell apart, but not the nips and rings. Help me Lord if that is the problem. Anyone else experience this? I thought the old nipples don't have BPA in them?

Hi Jessica,

Leaky Avent bottles are driving me nuts, too. My son's daycare teacher told me the other day to get new bottles because they leak. Grrr!

I think I found the fix here, though: http://mecrunchy.blogspot.com/2008/01/solution-to-avent-bottle-leak.html. Read all the way through the comments and use the suggestion to line up the number on the nipple with the tiny notch on the ring.

I don't know anything about mixing and matching the old and new bottle parts, but I'm sure your right that the old nipples don't have any BPA in them. You can also give Avent a call during the week. Some comments on the blog I linked to indicate that Avent may just send you some new bottles for free, no questions asked.

Good luck!

Many thanks Elizabeth. I'm grateful for the link and suggestions (and as usual, glad to know I'm not the only one)... I love this bulletin board.

I used Avent 10 years ago and they were awesome. Bought the new ones for the twins last fall and they leaked so much I threw them all away!
Hopefully the hints work for all of you with Avent.

So, I have found a solution for the leakiness after having said more than one expletive at 2 am! If you wet the nipple before putting it in the ring and tightening it all on the bottle, then they hardly ever leak.

Hopefully, this will help, too.

Thanks! I thought I was going crazy!!!

Our Avent bottles leak too! Thanks for this post, I'll have to try the suggestions too!

I'm off to b-r-us to try something else. My husband and I have had it after last night. I thought I was so smart to have "back-up" bottles at the ready--- but the twins don't like playtex either!!!!!!

I am so annoyed by this, too!! The new ones have a collar that has to go into the bottle first. If you put the old top on the new bottles, they leak all over the place (soaked my diaper bag).

It seems to me I read somewhere that if you over-tighten the Avents they leak. So maybe try making sure the top is screwed on snug, but not too tight?

I bought a bunch of Avent bottles but only used a few before switching to Dr. Brown's to help with Aiden's gassiness when he was little.
