Need help Choosing, PD or Home Hemo

0 Recommendations

Greetings everyone. I am looking for your input. I have to make a decision for my treatment on Dialysis, but I am not sure as to which one to go for. I have narrowed my choices down to two, PD or home hemo.

If possible, please post your experiences with either one of these treatments, whether good or bad. It is important for me to hear the restrictions you have faced while on the treatment, as well as the good stuff. I have to make my decision within the next two weeks so time is of the essence.

Thank you all for your support.

Hi Roberto,
I am currently on PD. I have really done well. It is very easy and effective. I am sorry I have to change to hemo because my peritoneum does not hold the water. It leaks into my lung cavity. This is a very rare problem. Not many people have it. If not for that I would love to keep on doing what I am doing. I have my fistula now and I am going to train for NxStage. The home hemo program. Dialyzing at home is much better for me because I am able to keep working. The diet restrictions are not as rigid on PD as hemo . I have really enjoyed that. Although I still have some residual kidney function I suppose I will have to watch my diet much closer on hemo even though I will be doing it every day. I hope this has helped you to make a decision. I was really worried about dialysis, but really it hasn't been bad. The most important thing about PD I think is caring for your exit site and making sure your connections stay sterile. I have never had an infection, so it is pretty easy. Good luck.
