Has anyone had these injections and do they seem to help. I am going to start them in April.
Thanks

I've been fortunate to be able to benefit from them - they usually only last from about 6-9 months (per set of the three) injections. I've been able to go as long as 18 months at one time. Usually the doctor will numb the area and the actual shot is into the joint space of the knee. There are no written guarantees with any treatment - but they have given me wonderful relief. And it allows me to extend my time between needing to having sugery to remove bone spurs and scar tissue from my knees that have had Left - 8 and Right - 3 surgeries. The principal idea of this therapy is almost like lubing a car chasis - if you keep it lubricated - the parts won't rub against it other. It's works great for me, and I'm in the process of getting a series in both knees at this time. I think that I've had about 8 different sets since 1996?? My husband was given the 3 shots and had no relief - again the no guarantee rule. But it can work!!
Good luck!! Jean
Thank you for your comment about the synvisc injections. It has only been 4 weeks since I had the last one, but I don't feel any relief at all. I am going Friday to see if I can have a knee replacement done on both knees at the same time. I already have a partial replacement in my left knee that was done about 4 years ago. They are telling me now that it needs a full replacement, but it is my right knee that is giving me most of the trouble. I just want to get them both fixed and be over with. Good luck to you and I hope the synvisc keeps working for you.

Unfortunately sometimes it works for some people and other times it doesn't. ( I know that is really comforting to hear!!). If it isn't working for you the surgery may be the best alternative if that is the way your doctor thinks you should go. Good luck and let us know how you are doing. Calaneet
I have not had these injections, but similar ones.
They just helped for a short while. Had a partial replacement in one knee - which has not been very effective.
Not fun getting old
I had the series of 3 synvisc injections just weeks ago. If I had to say if they worked, I'd say no, although I'm told I have to wait the full 6-9 weeks to know for sure.
My results are typical though, my arthritis is severe in both knees - I was told it may not work for me.
As for the procedure, it was fine. My doctor was very good with it and I had minimal side effects.
I did get a good 2 weeks without pain but I'm back to where I started pretty much.
I've had them for 4 years in a row...the first three years were great. I actually had no knee pain, but the last one was not so successful. I think you need some cartilage in order for it to be effective.
i only had the injections for the one course. They did not help at all. I was recently diagnosed with RA, so I doubt if they would have helped at all. I am glad that they have helped you. I am not sorry that I gave them a try.
Good Luck
