Osteoarthritis in my toes....Feeling Frustrated

0 Recommendations

I have had osteoarthritis in my toes for over 5 years and have been told that there is not much that can be done. I have had one surgery already which was only about 30% successful in relieving the pain. I am scheduled for another one in a couple months and am expecting similar results. I have been told I have to learn to live with the pain. I am only 41 years old. I was extremely active before and now there are days when I can barely walk.
Since I don't have RA, most Dr's aren't really interested in helping me with my plight.

Anyone else out there feeling frustrated like me? Any suggestions.

Thanks,
Graygirl30

Graygirl30, I understand your frustration. I have been going through similar problems for over 5 years now myself. The Dr's aren't sure what my problem is. One says RA, but the one blood test (simple) didn't show the factor. Another says Fibro. which my first Dr doesn't think it is. All I know is I hurt 24/7. I had severe pain about 3 years ago in my foot, towards the heel. It was so painful I was in a wheel chair for about two weeks as I could not put any pressure on it. I was given a shot of Cortisone in the heel
(not recommended for sissies). The pain was horrible, and, I don't know if I'd do it again, but it worked. I was able to walk on it that night and have not had any recurrence of pain since then. I don't know if it would work for you but, it's an option.

I don't have insurance so most Dr's don't even want to talk to me. That's why I haven't had a full blood test for the RA as it's quite expensive. The only thing I try to do is take one day at a time and not try to do too much on those days where I feel halfway decent.

I know it's not much help, but, knowing others are in the same situation does help, sometimes.

Hang in there,

I have found that when the arthritis is flaring, it helps to tape the afficted toe to it's neighbor. I changed the tape daily and made sure never to do it so tight circulation was cut.

Maybe this will help you :)
